About the adventure

You'll be exploring the high-pressure competition of the World Games hockey tournament, paired with the smoldering tension of queer drama. Every skater came to Italy to win, but you may find something more: lust, or perhaps even love (or the extremely valid realization you don't actually want either). Arriving just before the opening ceremonies with only your gear and gold medal expectations on your shoulders, the whole village seems anxious and nervous. Players, teammates, staff, and locals are all settling into their places. People from all over the world are gathered in tight quarters, you could bump into anyone! As the tension rises on the ice, the hallways get quieter and the parties get wilder. Everyone and everything is rushing toward the gold medal. Can you keep a hold on your heart at the same time? We'll be using "Tournament Arc" - a simple, narrative-focused, token-based game great for players new to TTRPGs and/or interested in developing their roleplaying skills. No math, no combat. About me

I've been telling stories since playing pretend with my sister in elementary school. Writing, roleplaying, acting, performing; I've done it all. I love watching new characters come to life and new players break ground. I've been running storytelling games since middle school, and only sometimes in D&D systems. I'm always looking for fresh ideas and new rules to try out. Bring me games that spark your imagination, and let's game it out together. My strongest friendships were forged while liberating oppressed goblins with my trans and nonbinary pals. All players are welcome at my table.

Character creation

Creating your character

- The game we'll be playing requires some interaction and questions while creating characters, so we'll take some time during the first session to cover those. - To be respectful of everyone's time, please fill out a character sheet beforehand and send it to me, or we can meet one-on-one to build ideas together. Keep in mind the following: ✅ You must use a playbook from officially published Biscuit Fund Games materials (either the game manual or the Extra Time supplements) ✅ Your character is an ice hockey player ✅ Your character is on the national hockey team ✅ Your character is a man, trans, or nonbinary ✅ Your character is comfortable with being on the men's national team ✅ Your character may have a disability or use assistive devices to play, if you choose ❌ Your character cannot be a real athlete ❌ Your character cannot be named after a real person ❌ No RPF ❓ Your character is dealing with homophobia (internal or external)* ❓ Your character is dealing with mental illness* ❓ Your character is violent* ** * These elements will be decided on a table-by-table basis, your character should make sense and work with or without them. ** Violent in the hockey sense of enforcing, fighting opponents, and hitting extra hard

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🧑‍💻 The sessions will be played remotely via Discord (my server), or in a pinch, Jitsi Meet (which doesn't require an account). 📝 Be prepared to track your own character and take your own notes. Tournament Arc doesn't have any complicated mechanics, so I don't currently plan to use a VTT for our games. 📖 I'll provide info about your character's team, as well as info on other teams and players. 📚 The game manual and free player aids can be downloaded from the Tournament Arc store page (https://biscuitfund.itch.io/tournament-arc).

What Nef brings to the table

🥸 I like to dress on theme and use props where I can. You can too! 🔊 I also like to have "intro" and "credits" music and visuals to take players in and out of the action. 💭 From time to time, I ask meta questions like "Where should we take this plot next?" or "What is your character feeling and how could it be resolved?" in order to get us on the same storytelling page.

Homebrew rules

The Tournament Arc manual describes the game as "GM-less", but I will be running the game as a normal GM would: I'll play NPCs, build the setting, and introduce external plot points.

Safety

How Nef creates a safe table

- Before the game starts, I will send a link to a document where players can anonymously list their Lines and Veils. - While playing, participants may say or type "Yellow" to warn of an upcoming topic they want to avoid. - While playing, participants may say or type "Red" to immediately stop the scene and negotiate how the game will continue. - Once any concerns have been resolved, participants unanimously say or type "Green" to continue the game. - There will be short prearranged breaks around once an hour. - While playing, participants may say or type "BRB" to indicate that they are stepping away, but the game should continue without them. - After the game, we will each have a moment to share our out-of-game feelings without judgement or disagreement. - After the game, we'll have some open time to socialize and relax out-of-character.
