About the adventure

The town of Ashfall is under siege. Smoke rises from the mountains as the Black Ash Horde, a goblin war-host led by the terrifying Gorvax, the Ash King, marches toward the town with fire, chaos, and destruction in their wake. The townsfolk are terrified, the gates are vulnerable, and only a small band of heroes can hold the line. That’s where you come in. Siege of Ashfall is a fast-paced, combat-focused one-shot designed for players who thrive on tactical decision-making, teamwork, and high-energy action. Over the course of three thrilling acts, your party will defend Ashfall from waves of cunning goblins, fire-wielding bombers, berserk forge ragers, and massive war machines—all while managing the town’s defenses, rallying allies, and making split-second choices that could mean life or death. The adventure is built for engaging gameplay from start to finish: 1. Prepare the Town: Arrive in Ashfall and assess the defenses, coordinate villagers, set traps, and decide how best to fortify your positions. Every choice matters.
2. Battle the Horde: Face waves of enemies, from Ashcutters and Cinder Slingers to Iron Hounds and Smelter Shamans. Combat encounters are fast, strategic, and cinematic, encouraging creative thinking and clever tactics to turn the tide of battle.
3. Confront the Ash King: Gorvax himself emerges in a climactic showdown. Only teamwork, ingenuity, and courage will allow your party to survive the ultimate test and save Ashfall from total destruction. While the adventure is combat-heavy, it’s also built to reward clever play, creative problem-solving, and teamwork. Players who enjoy using the environment to their advantage, making daring tactical moves, or thinking outside the box will find multiple opportunities to shine. The story is intense, cinematic, and full of high-stakes moments that make every decision feel meaningful. Siege of Ashfall is perfect for: Players who love fast-paced, strategic combat with multiple enemy types. Adventurers who enjoy making impactful choices and coordinating as a team. Groups looking for a short but thrilling session with clear stakes and cinematic battles. New players who want an accessible, beginner-friendly one-shot, or experienced players looking for a challenge-packed session. Your decisions will shape the outcome: will Ashfall stand, or will the valley burn beneath the horde’s iron-clad feet? Grab your weapons, rally your allies, and prepare for a goblin siege unlike any you’ve faced before. The town’s survival is in your hands. High Stakes. Fiery Combat. Unforgettable Heroism. Are you ready to defend Ashfall?

About me

Hello! After playing as a character in many 1-shots and campaigns with my friends, I am now taking on the next challenge of DND: becoming a DM! Im a new-ish DM who likes hosting new players and introducing players to DND in low-stress, high fun, community focused games.

Character creation

Creating your character

After registering for the session, players will be sent the link to create characters using DND Beyond. Character creation can include the following: - Any species or class available from the options provided for DND Beyond (content shared by myself) - Players can select from either the 2014 or 2024 rules. We will blend together these rules as needed in session - Characters should be level 3 - Characters should use Standard Array for assigning skill totals If you have questions regarding class, species, weapons, armor, etc. you are welcome to reach out to pitch the idea or ask about its inclusion!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have accounts for the following sites: - DND Beyond - The Forge - Discord Prior to the session I will send the specific links to access our DND Campaign for character creation, the Discord link for the session, as well as for access to the server through The Forge. Please keep an eye our for this information. We will be utilizing the Foundry VTT system through The Forge. It is recommended that if you have not used Foundry previously that you watch this video to learn the basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2iRZ42fcJ0

What Jimmy (Tri-Nerd) brings to the table

This session will include the following: - Foundry VTT. This will include ambient music, lighting, and custom maps for the session! - I am a huge supporter of the Rule of Cool. The standard rules are meant to provide a structure for the game, and then to allow us to play with our characters and the story as is possible! - I am by no means a voice expert... I will tell most of the story/interact with players in my normal voice as a result. Players are welcome and encouraged to speak in their characters voice as they see fit!

Homebrew rules

Some homebrew rules to be aware of: - I support drinking a potion as a bonus action - I am not specifically tied to requiring spell components for lower level spells (unless the party wants to be specific on spell components!) - Meets-it-Beats-it roll offs
