About the adventure

It's the 1930s. A discreet request comes from Professor Lionel Finch—wealthy scientist, noted philanthropist, and a man not easily rattled. He asks you to infiltrate a private auction at an isolated hotel on the New England coast. The prize up for sale is rumored to be extraordinary… and catastrophic. A so-called Disintegrator—a device said to reduce matter to nothingness. What begins as an investigation into a dangerous invention quickly spirals into something far stranger and far more deadly than anyone anticipates. Designed as an introduction to Pulp Cthulhu, this scenario revels in classic pulp thrills: mad scientists, deadly inventions, mysterious and sinister strangers, and high-stakes heroics—where quick wits and faster fists may be the only thing standing between civilization and annihilation.

About me

I first played and ran D&D and other RPGs in 6th grade and through college. After a long break, I came back during the pandemic, playing 5e D&D online with coworkers. That led me to start running a weekly Call of Cthulhu game — and I haven’t looked back since. I love crafting immersive stories and rich roleplaying experiences for my players.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be covered during a FREE Session Zero before the game begins. Players will create their investigators using the rules and guidelines from the Pulp Cthulhu rulebook. I’ll walk through the process during Session Zero, provide clear instructions and references, and be available on Discord to answer questions, review concepts, and help troubleshoot anything from stats to backstory. Pre-generated characters are available upon request. Characters should be completed either during the Session Zero or between the Session Zero and the first game session. If you’re unsure whether an idea fits the tone of the game, just ask—I’m happy to help fine-tune characters so they’re fun, pulp-appropriate, and ready to jump straight into the action.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the first session, players should: 1. Create accounts on Roll20 and Discord—these platforms will be used for gameplay and communication. 2. Ensure you have a decent microphone for clear discussion and roleplaying.

What Brian B. brings to the table

I provide a fast-moving, pulp-forward game that prioritizes action, momentum, and player choice. This game leans into the Rule of Cool rather than strict rules enforcement. Combat is handled in a loose, theater-of-the-mind style, focusing on pacing and narrative impact rather than detailed tactics or grids. Players are encouraged to be proactive, take risks, and lean into the genre.

Safety

How Brian B. creates a safe table

Player comfort and safety are a priority at my table. We’ll use Lines & Veils to establish boundaries, and this will be reviewed together during a FREE Session Zero before the game begins. We’ll also use that time to cover expectations, tone, and any content concerns so everyone feels comfortable before jumping into play. During the game, we’ll use X, N, and O cards via private message. These can be used at any time to pause, redirect, or check in on comfort—no explanation required. I’ll always respond promptly and respectfully. The goal is a game that’s tense and scary in play, but safe, welcoming, and collaborative at the table. Players are encouraged to speak up at any point—before, during, or after the session—if something isn’t working for them.
