About the adventure

[Narrator voice] THIS FEBUARY… THERE WILL BE… NO. MORE. SWEETHEARTS. At Prospect High, the halls are full of crushes, kisses… …and corpses. A masked killer is leaving notes… …and taking names. Now a pack of supernatural screw ups are hunting something worse than their exes. This February…love hurts. [title card] Crush // Kill ----------------------------------------------------------- Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Welcome to my Monsterhearts game! Written and designed by the legendary Avery Alder, Monsterhearts is a multi award winning system and is hands down one of the best games out there for teen drama and paranormal romance. Play as a teenage monster navigating identity, desire, and transformation as the world, and their bodies, shift around them. Both the text and my table are: sex positive, queer friendly, and deeply trans informed. Because the themes of Monsterhearts explicitly focus on romance and sex, all players, as well as their characters must be 18 and over.

About me

I’ve been running TTRPGs for 20 years; from heavy, math driven systems, to more fiction forward style games. That experience has taught me one thing: rules only exist to support player fun. I’m happy to lean into tactical fights, high melodrama, or total chaos, depending on what matters most in the moment. Every session is a collaboration, and I get genuine joy from watching players bring their ideas to life and leave their mark on the story. Outside of the game, I am a teacher. That probably shapes my understanding of fairness, and why I care so much about finding your own voice. No matter your experience or background, my table is a safe, welcoming space to learn and explore. So, if you are worried about being a little weird, or not knowing exactly what to do. Congratulations, you’ve found your people. Let’s roll some dice and make some bad decisions

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should arrive on time, and with an attitude of friendly cooperation. Previous TTRPG experience is not required, for extra credit, players can familiarize themselves with the basics of PbtA here: All materials will be provided day of. However, if you want to put yourself into the right mood you can watch media like: Buffy the vampire Slayer, Twilight, Jessica's Body, or Ginger Snaps. One-on-one: I’d like to schedule a short 5-10 minute conversation over Discord sometime before session 0. Just to introduce myself, answer any questions you might have, and smooth over any snags before we jump into the game.

How Emil creates a safe table

This game fits into the teen/paranormal/drama category and includes many familiar tropes of that media. You can expect themes around awkwardness, discomfort in your own body, and the feeling of not fitting in. There will be time during our one-on-one session to discuss how you might want to explore these themes, as well as any personal limits you want to set. Sexuality is an explicit theme of Monsterhearts, but I am ***NOT*** running an erotic game. On-screen depictions of sexual contact will be minimal, and we will maintain strict above table boundaries around player comfort and consent, even as our characters make messy, impulsive choices in play.
