About the adventure
The Taetha Laboratory sits in a remote part of the frozen tundra in the northern hemisphere of Lithios VII, far from prying eyes who would tamper with the innovative projects that take place here. However, when a test subject gets loose, outsiders may be the only ones who can help the scientists find a solution. Your rag-tag group is tasked with making an important delivery and find yourselves tasked with helping those within the lab. Can you discover what research was being conducted? Will you find the test subject in time? What exactly is this package you were sent to deliver? This level 5 one shot is a fun mystery set in a fantasy sci-fi world as you search for answers and fight your way to helping these scientists who have let things get just a little too out of hand.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! I'm Britt. I delved into tabletop gaming during COVID and never looked back. I've been Game Mastering since June 2021, and I started playing in September 2021. I'm well-versed in D&D 5e and am learning Daggerheart, along with other table top systems. My tables are welcoming spaces for everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or experience level. I've hosted games for players ALL ages with the youngest at 6, from newcomers to veterans. They're always LGBTQ+ friendly, and my pronouns are she/her. In our games, we come together to weave stories, and I'm here to facilitate that. Whether it's a one-shot or a mini-campaign, players drive the narrative, and I'm here to guide and enhance their storytelling. We play on Roll20 and use Discord for voice communication. Character creation, if needed, can be done on D&D Beyond for easy access to resource books. Feel free to share any homebrew ideas; we can create the perfect character and story together.

Creating your character
For Trail and Error, players will be level 5. If you choose to bring/create your own, we will be using Dark Matter alongside 2024 5e content and must be sent to me for review no later than 24 hours before session starts. (If you have a character idea that incorporates other sources, get with me - I am happy to work with you!) Stats will be determined using the "roll 4d6 and drop the lowest".
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I encourage webcams as that helps with roleplaying, but it is not a requirement. A reliable mic, along with a Discord and Roll20 account, are necessary for the game. If you are bringing a character, you will need GM approval no later than 24 hours before start (this allows time for review and creating the sheet/token in Roll20). If you are using a premade character, your selection should be made at least 24 hours before session to allow time to review and ask any mechanics questions in the Session Zero Discord post. Once added to the Discord channel, players are strongly encouraged to read through the Session Zero post and ask any additional questions/clarifications they may have.
What Britt S. brings to the table
We will use Roll20 for this adventure, with premade level 5 characters available for players to choose from. Players may bring or create their own characters as long as they are signed up by 24 hours before we start. (Any PC creation limitations will be listed in the Session Zero post). The map will utilize lighting to help with the atmosphere. As we move through the session, players will find I run with Rules as Written (RAW) with a heavy emphasis on tell me how you do the "cool thing" and we will see what the dice have to say! I also encourage players to flex their roleplaying skills - if you have a voice or quirk for your character, lean into it, as I will be doing the same for the NPC's you all will meet.
Homebrew rules
**NOTE - if the players can do it, so can the enemies!** Flanking: Players must be on opposite sides of the enemy for advantage on their attack Cleaving: Extra damage from a killing blow given to a second enemy within 5ft of the initial enemy. The attack roll must hit the AC of both enemies for the damage to be given Potion Consumption FOR YOURSELF: Using your action allows you to gain the max benefit of the potion. You can opt to use your bonus action instead and roll for the healing instead. FOR OTHERS: This will always require an action and the healing will need to be rolled. Critical Hit Modification: On a critical hit, roll 1 die and then add the max damage for you damage die. ( e.g. 2d8 damage: 5 (rolled)+ 8 (max) = 13 dmg.) Additional Notes For Leveled One Shots You may choose a +1 weapon OR +1 armor, otherwise you begin with your classes starting equipment. Additionally, roll 2 d100's to see what magic items your character starts with.
