About the adventure
The ๐๐ข๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐จ is 50 years away and will progress with or without you. What happens in ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ฟ in the years before is unwritten, and within is your heroic destiny. There are old evils here that have lingered through the turning of the Ages โ howls over the ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐ป๐บ๐ผ๐ผ๐ฟ๐, pale lights on the ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐-๐ฑ๐ผ๐๐ป๐, wild Men of ๐๐ฟ๐๐ป ๐ฉ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ป โ and they seem happy that they have been forgotten for now. A supplement to 5th Edition D&D, ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฅ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ข๐บ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ treats Tolkienโs work with care and respect, and adds or fleshes out thematic modes of play that suit a campaign in Middle-earth. We will be playing collaboratively, fairly close to RAW, with open-ended goals. This is for players who love ๐ ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐น๐ฒ-๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ต as a place, not just a plot; for those who enjoy the slow movements of a more gentle land of quiet heroism, but also moral pressure, hard travel, and the tingling of primordial fear on the spine. You will argue in council, stand watch in the cold, and decide what still deserves protecting. Your decisions will bring consequences. You will leave a mark, and Middle-earth will never forget it, though it is up to you whether your acts will be recorded or not. ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ค๐ง. This campaign is set in the wide, lonely lands between the ๐๐น๐๐ฒ and the ๐ ๐ถ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ป๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐, where the past and present are pressed together along broken roads: the present has settled into steadiness; GREAT evil dwells in the past. This is where the primary boundary makers are rivers, wolves and animosity. In the long history of this region โ possibly the oldest history of any in Middle-earth โ it has never been tamed. Even in the height of Elven ๐ข๐๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ, or even Nรบmenรณrean ๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ผ๐ฟ, wide swathes of the land were entirely vicious and wild. And so they remain. The Dรบnedain have many reasons for prioritising this land for their Watch, and not all are well-known; some remain secret even to the Rangers themselves! When one hears of the old and foul things in the dark, those of which the Dรบnedain, nay, even the Wise ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ป has no knowledge, does it not strike one with horror? You must be mad to pit yourself against those things...

About me
Hullo, I'm L, British GM โ it's a pleasure! PASSION is where I'm at right now. This is not only some of the most fun a person can have, it's also really important to where we are as a species. Sure, it's a window into the unknown and unfamiliar, but its real PSYCHIC BOON is how much you can learn about yourself and the people you're playing with. A writer since birth (moving gradually through fantasy/alt history/post-modern romance/pulp fiction/sci-fi), I took instantly to GMing. Being able to immerse others in such a direct and collaborative was a BREATH. After six years running games in person and online with local and worldwide friends, I became a dad, and then more of us became parents, and it became very difficult to schedule games. But NOW I find out there's a way to do what I love (and am very good at, promise!) while getting a bit of nappy/diaper pocket money? Sign me up!

Creating your character
As soon as you join and get in the Discord, you can start playing around with character options. All characters will be of the Heroic Cultures (Race/Species), Callings (Classes) and Backgrounds within ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฅ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ข๐บ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ, so I'll distribute the character creation part of the book, and the custom character sheet, beforehand. Heroic Cultures: Bardings, Dwarves of Durin's Folk, Elves of Lindon, Hobbits of the Shire, Men of Bree, Rangers of the North. Each of these have their own Backgrounds to choose from. Callings: Captain, Champion, Messenger, Scholar, Treasure Hunter or Warden. BUT we will be finalising your Player-heroes in Session 0. This is partly to sort out party composition, but mostly it is for ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ด๐ช๐ฎ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ต๐ถ๐ฅ๐ฆ: it's easy enough to write in why your characters ended up in a certain place at the same time, but it would be great if we could agree a reason for adventuring together, and perhaps a hard goal or end point that might differ between characters (a retiring point).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a working mic and a Discord account. Owlbear doesn't need an account and works grand on most devices. Character sheets will be on Google Sheets (or at least reproduced there, if you want to use a physical one), but that doesn't need an account either. If you're not too experienced playing D&D, don't fret, there are no bad questions! You don't need to know the rules back to front, just how your character functions (and I understand that might take a few sessions). For those who want to read about the changes from 5th Edition to I've written up a cheat sheet (see the "WoBW" tab): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tg4JD95gbRCLGv0x1O4J4h-oM6tk9nDl3HwrnDrGfgg/edit?usp=sharing
What L Sunborn Games brings to the table
My utmost to bring this little area of Middle-earth to life, and completely reactive to your designs. This means it changes around the decisions you make and functions in reaction to your passions and convictions. I'm very comfortable with sudden shifts and thinking on the fly! The world for our purposes is Eriador, a massive landmass bordered to the east and west with mountains, with the Shire at its centre. I don't think it's likely your characters will need to venture farther afield than this, but anything's possible! We have a Google Sheets spreadsheet for everyone's character sheets. We use Owlbear maps for exploration and combat with ambient/atmospheric music, and voice chat on Discord. I'll also provide character voices galore, all (hopefully) in line with their cultures and personality! At the end of each session, I sketch out the main beats of the session while it's fresh it everyone's memory, then a few days before the next session, I post a proper write-up that everyone can collaborate on and will be used to introduce the next session. Combat will be pretty challenging, but always gauged by your interest in it, and against the lore-driven enemies of Middle-earth.
Homebrew rules
Many, but none too controversial! We are deferring to ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฅ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ข๐บ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ, otherwise there are a bunch that I find make play more fun and exciting. With everything else, they're collaborative โ I'll always be happy for critique and to make sure to bounce off you. How L Sunborn Games creates a safe table
The Session 0 will be set up as a character creation session and "mood board" rundown for anyone who joins. At any time you can let me know about lines and veils and I'll stick to 'em religiously. ๐๐ค๐ฉ๐ ๐ค๐ฃ ๐พ๐ค๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ ๐๐๐ง๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐๐จ. The content/trigger warnings below are not exhaustive. Basically, let your mind delve into tropes of the lovely, adventurous, sometimes bleak and perhaps horrifying Middle-earth, and we'll probably get there at some point. HOWEVER there will be no majorly problematic content or themes, nothing outright abusive or discriminatory โ if you have a concern, shoot me a line or veil.
