About the adventure

Dark clouds loom in the skies over the mining towns of the Laspian Hills, where walled and guarded villages dot the once-green landscape. These mining towns provide the most precious resource in the nation of Adamas: diamonds. As such, travel in and out of these villages is limited to the official caravans of Aeristers-- government treasurers-- that carry the diamonds and coal (but mostly coal, these days) produced in the hills to the capital in Pleonexia, and communication between the ordinary working folk of each town is next to impossible, save for messages passed by the firebrand resistance network known as the Ashen Tide. The diamond trade is the beating heart of Adamas, but that heartbeat is growing fainter. The government began its regime with a golden era of divine magic, health, and resurrection, but that gilt is beginning to crumble. The folk of the Laspian Hills were promised that any injury or ailment they acquired while working in the mines could be cured if they simply found enough of that precious rock... but no miner, old or young, has hit diamond in decades. A month ago, a message went out through the Ashen Tide network that diamonds had been found deep in the mines of the small Laspian village of Zarpeska. The Tide intended to rebel against the government's Aeristers in Zarpeska and hold the diamonds as a bartering chip to improve conditions in the region, but ever since the first missive went out, Zarpeska has gone dead silent. You will play a group of level 7 adventurers who signed up with the to infiltrate Zarpeska, investigate the mines, and report back to the Ashen Tide... after stealing the diamonds right out from under the nose of the Aeristers, of course. You could be a true blue revolutionary, an ordinary laborer who turned to criminal activity as a last resort to feed their family when their paycheck slowed down, a wandering outlaw or thief with a thirst for coin (and a cut of the diamonds you discover), a spy for the Aeristers, or anything else that suits your fancy and ties you in to the adventure. It's up to you! SOME THEMES INCLUDE: - Antifascism - Anti-industrialism - Espionage - Folk horror - And shiny, shiny rocks

About me

Hi! I'm a Dungeon Master in my free time (during the day I'm an acting major at college in NYC). I run several weekly D&D home games with different groups of players and I'm used to adapting to various genres and tones. In life, I genuinely don't think anything has as much power to bring people together as storytelling. I love meeting new people and learning what they want from their characters and their narratives. (And yes, I promise I'll read your backstory.)

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation tips: - You'll be making a level 7 character and rolling for stats (4d6, drop the lowest) - ***We are using the legacy 2014 version of 5e, NOT 2024! - Make your character sheet on whatever platform you'd like (D&D Beyond, Roll20, Reroll, a fillable PDF, a physical piece of paper) as long as you can share a copy with me - Almost any source material is OK as long as we can tie it into the setting - We'll chat briefly over DMs about your character's backstory and motivations for going on this adventure before we play the one-shot

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game, make sure your mic and camera work on Discord. Come curious and ready to play!

What Evie brings to the table

Combat for this campaign will be Theater of the Mind, and when it comes to the rules, I wholeheartedly encourage you to wield the fine print like a weapon but embrace the Rule of Cool when it serves you best. Overall, my goal as a DM is for you to have fun! I create worlds for players to get lost in and plots where your choices have a genuine impact, with rewards and consequences aplenty.

Homebrew rules

HOMEBREW RULES: - Drinking a potion is a bonus action. - Flanking grants advantage. - Held/readied actions give you a full round of attacks.

Safety

How Evie creates a safe table

Safety tools are very important to me as a DM. I want to make sure all my players feel comfortable in the game. I'll send you a copy of the Monte Cook RPG Checklist when you join the campaign's Discord server. After filling out the form, you can either message it to me directly or send it to the Safety Tools channel on the server. There will be a 15 minute break in the middle of the one-shot. During the break, feel free to message me with any questions or concerns you have about the game so far. After the game, if you want to stay for a couple minutes, we can debrief and talk about the session.
