Mountain Magic & How to Use It - PBP Folk Horror

The sky wept on the day they hung the metal sign welcoming all passerby into Sanctuary. They knew that those heavy gates only swung in, and never out.

About the adventure

Dear Brother, Our arrival in Sanctuary was welcomed by a joyous processional. Men, women, and children all came out of their homes to embrace us and call us kin. We were fed by the neighbors, bellies filled with love and bread and faith. They sent us home, with piles of what was left of food that will surely feed us for at least a week! It was wonderful, and I believe that Vincent and I will be settling in with ease. The trip here wasn't too strenuous, for the most part. The most hazarding part was right before you get to the big gate, where you've gotta cross the river. It's an ancient, powerful river that gets deep, and wide right there. Once you and the missus can make it for a visit, you'll need to be careful. Of course, there's a few rules. Mostly about walking round other peoples' houses without shoes, or mandatory attendance on Sundays. I do need to give you a little warning about the preacherman though. Only because his appearance is striking, in a way like lightning, or a specter. He's not unkind at all, not cold or distant. He speaks with an unshakable conviction, and his sermons are a thing to behold. But there is something different he's hiding. I think he may be blind. He's the closest thing to an angel, pure white from head to toe, wearing the simple black of a clergyman. He is smart, with a soft and thoughtful demeanor, and welcomed us just the same as the others. I can't put my finger on it. But something about him, something much deeper than his looks, tells me to beware. Tells my whole body to run. . . . I'll write you soon, Brother. I miss you dearly! Love, Cricket

About me

Hello and welcome! I’m Pierce and I’d like to be your GM! I hope your travels so far have been kind to you, and I hope you’re ready for another! Or, if this is your first adventure, I’m honored to be your guide as you take your first steps! A bit about me: - I’ve been a professional dungeon master for 2 years, teaching kids aged 8-15 the ins and outs and joys of D&D. - I’ve been a hobbyist GM for 6 years, running home games for friends and family across several systems. - I’m an artist (and former tattoo artist), and can/will provide hand drawn character portraits for you and your table! - My favorite TTRPG system is the World of Darkness Storyteller System, with Dungeons and Dragons as a close second. - I am an avid video gamer as well, and play a multitude of games on PC, and have a big soft spot in my heart for Rock Band. Things to expect at my table: - Focus on role playing, where combat is used for the story rather than to fill space, and exploration is up to you. - Stories catered to you and your character rather than rigid adherence to existing narratives. - Active interest in your character arc and goals, tell me where you wanna go and how! - A dedicated discord server for each game with active participation from me - An open-door policy for kind and friendly conversation, even about the hard stuff - Curated Spotify/Youtube playlists to encapsulate the vibes of your game - Mutual respect for every single person, regardless of any variables - Time taken for each and every person at the table to get their handle on the rules and gameplay, with any assistance needed freely given. If all of this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, I’d like to formally invite you to join me at the table! I’m excited to meet you and craft your next favorite adventure.

Character creation

Creating your character

To create your character, you'll need a general idea of a person who may have existed in 1850s Pennsylvania, with or without magic, trauma, aspirations, or obligations. Character creation will happen either via DMs in Discord or at session 0, where I can help those who need assistance. For those who are more familiar, you'll start with a brand new character ready to face the strange place known as Sanctuary. Here are some resources to help you get started: The OGoA Corebook: https://anyflip.com/evhzc/twsf/ A Character+Mechanics Walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uQb7j90Y5s

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need: - Access to the internet - Access to am OGoA character sheet - A d20, a d6, and two d10s, either physically or digitally - Access to Discord - Working Mic - Camera (optional) - Notetaking materials (optional)
