About the adventure

Inspired by works such as Sleepy Hollow, Crimson Peak, From Hell, The VVitch, and the Blair Witch Project—Lake Solemn is a fictional setting where America had 25 original colonies and five Great Lakes. Set 20 years after the Revolutionary War, when the Americans and Southeil natives fought alongside one another to defeat the British. While no other races except humans exist here, monsters do. Primal creatures stalk prey in the Malin forest. Ghouls and ghosts come at night to plague Killian Peak. Witches have turned the Cats Isle into a refuge for covens for nearly a century. Vampires thrive as they blend in among the crowd before snatching unsuspecting victims and hiding their bodies in the catacombs of the cities. And somehow, the weirdest part is that Lake Solemn is the only place in the world where the only species of freshwater octopus exist! Humans, Aasimar, Dhampir, Shifters, Hexblood, Reborn, Tiefling and Ghosts—yes GHOSTS—are the only playable races here, and if you're a nonhuman, you'll need to hide what you really are from the rest of the world around you. Magic still exists but barely. It is thought by the Americans to be long gone if it ever even existed, but the Southeil natives know that there are some who can still connect and wield magic. Hatchets, muskets, rapiers and leather—not the usual kind of campaign with heavy armor and the usual martial weaponry. But even so, what good is it against what's out there...? You are an outsider—called to Malin Island to investigate a problem on the Eastern highway between Westfield and Catswatch. Whoever summoned you in the letter alluded to knowing about your unique skills as well as any secrets you may hold if any. Can you trust this stranger promising to pay you for your expertise? Can you trust the party that has also been brought in by the same person? What mysteries await you in Lake Solemn...?

About me

The worlds I offer for you to explore together with others range from a parallel universe where the United States had FIVE Great lakes and for some reason Florida never existed (no offense to those who love that state) to a world where classic horror movie monsters such as werewolves and ghouls are as numerous and deadly as the number of crimson-armored Inquisitors hunting mages and nonhumans alike. Not a fan of post colonialism, the Victorian Era or post US Civil War fantasy? How about a more lighthearted world with higher fantasy volumes, where every thirty years, pilgrims who arrive at the peak of Mt Byron draw upon the magic of the Blood Star Comet to make their wishes come true? Or if you're a fan of a certain Galaxy far, far away, I can run a couple one-shot stories for you and your band of scruffy-looking nerf-herders. Whether you're absolutely new or a well-seasoned player, I intend to give you stories and adventures that not only help you escape our reality but even possibly allow you to change the history in the world around your character.

Character creation

Creating your character

***Session Zero is free***, it's where we meet together, break the ice and collaborate on what kind of character each of you wish to play as, how each character fits into the world, how your characters know one another, etc. Dice rolls are via Avrae, a dice bot that you tell what to roll. That said, more trusted parties may be offered to roll dice at home and to use the honor system. For stats, you're going to roll a d20, and if it's below a 10, you getting add +10 to the total. Standard Point Array is 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8, BUT HAVING AN 8 IS LAME, especially when simple villager NPCs have 10s across the board. So instead of an 8, your d20 roll replaces that stat. If you roll a 6, you got 16. If you roll a 10, it stays 10. If you roll a nat 20? Huzzah! The dice gods favor you! If anything comes to be too much for you, your fun and comfort are my top priority. Let me know immediately, and we can adjust and accommodate.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Just have discord. That's it. Just discord, a working webcam, microphone and whatever ideas this prompt has given you so far as to who you wish to be in this escape from our reality. If you wanna be fancy and spend $3, there's the 5th Edition Character Sheet app, but you can save your money—I'll screenshot the character sheets for each of you and post them to your very own private character stats and inventory channels for each of you to use and help keep up with your role in this role playing game.

What MajorLitDnD brings to the table

How well does your mind paint an image as you listen to words? As your DM, I intend to use my words and your imagination to help us escape this reality together, to bring you to a world where you and your willpower can make a genuine difference. Feel the brisk misty night air on your skin as autumn leaves audibly crush beneath your footsteps. The leather grip of your hand axe is warmed by your body heat as you smell smoke close by and see postcolonial villagers running into the dark from the banshee floating through the smoke of the bonfire, wailing with all her undead fury as she sets her wicked and unholy eyes on you and rushes forward. The spark of lightning magic crackles in your hand as you hurt a chromatic orb of pure evocation magic at her, striking her chest hard enough to turn her clockwise just a corner-turn, but her glowing translucent veil of a form is still dead set on attacking you.

Homebrew rules

All monsters are vulnerable to slivered weapons and ammo. Muskets do more damage but take several rounds to reload.
