About the adventure

The City is a custom campaign setting that takes place in an ancient and plane spanning city. Most citizens live ordinary, if not boring, lives unaware of the danger and intrigue that simmers beneath its urbane veneer. These adventures will serve as an introduction to the City, with characters starting as fledgling adventurers taking on simple jobs that the ordinary citizenry won't touch. These characters can also be used in other City campaign setting games the group can also stick together to form an official adventuring or mercenary company. The adventures will showcase several areas in the City, ending with an important job in the Emerald View, home of the wealthy and powerful. Anybody looking to learn Pathfinder or veterans looking to try out some new rules and classes are welcome in this game, after all, the City welcomes all.

About me

My name is Joshua Algarin and I've been playing, then GMing various table tops, starting with DnD 2e, for almost 25 years now. I've played most of the DnD systems, as well as Pathfinder 1e and generally have run and created home brewed campaign worlds or changes to existing ones. I've also used a number of online tools for games when in person ones became difficult and mostly use Fantasy Grounds now. I've run a number of online tables now, mostly as a GM, anywhere from one shots to much longer form games. I also have run play by post games for people that couldn't make a set schedule work and want to focus more on the roleplay and storytelling aspect of the game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation is outlined in the City Guide Document and varies slightly from the standard generation. Characters can be made before the first session and then finalized during session 0 Stats are generated by rolling 4d6, rerolling 1s and dropping the lowest number. Core, Base, Hybrid, and Alternate classes are allowed, as are Psionics and Path of War. The City also features two new base classes, the Tinkerer, and Magician which are allowed as well. They are shown in the City Guide Document.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a Fantasy Grounds account, and will need to look at the City Guide document so they can create a character and be familiar with the setting.

What Joshua brings to the table

The City is a great place for learning how to play Pathfinder and also can be a place to hone your roleplaying abilities; social interactions and contacts are as important as swords and spells. There is a comprehensive guide to the City that can be used as much as players want when coming into the game, some citizens may only know about their own community, so coming in without greater knowledge of the City is not problem. Interesting encounters fill the City, whether a party is skulking down the alleys in search of a missing person or providing muscle for a maybe not-so-legitimate merchant. Only you can decide where to go and what to do, as long as you make your name known.

Homebrew rules

Elephant in the room feat Tax Rule, The City campaign also uses a Social Caste background system in addition to traits, which is outlined in the City Guide
