About the adventure

Synopsis: Locked City Wayfarers is a Gothic Grimdark Urban Fantasy campaign where you play as someone who was forced to live in the decrepit prison state of Quafal, due to a curse placed on your bloodline. Now you search for escape as you form deep bonds with your fellow citizens, deciding to either form a new life here, search for a means to escape its walls, or fan the flames of rebellion. All the while, supernatural forces are at play, corrupting the people and the very stone walls with black magic. The Locked City is for players who want to explore the dark side of civilization and how it drives people to act for survival. If you enjoy stories such as Castlevania Nocturn, Les Misérables, Huntchback of Notre Dame, Dracula, and Vanhelsing, then you are in for a gothic treat! Background: The Age of Blood, a period of Alcmian history drowned in superstition and hysteria. This age began with the conclusion of the Sangiune War, a bitter conflict between the Alcmian Empire and the rebelling people of Thraisha, the most brutal and bloody war they had ever seen. The battlefield, the entire, now fallen, Land of Thraisha, was stained red by the pooling blood of the thousands slain. The pain, fear, hatred, broken hopes, shattered dreams, and the final rebukes of the slaughtered gathered together on the earth and cursed both it and all those connected to that war. What gave these dying souls such power? Only the king knows, but regardless, the effect was disastrous. After the war's conclusion, the Thraishan survivors and Alcmian veterans left those desecrated lands for new places to start a home in Alcmia, unaware that their very blood had been marked. With passing generations, more and more of the descendants of the Sangiune War experienced horrific transformations when they matured. Children of the survivors grew anything from horns, scales, rose vines, feathered wings, esoteric marks, additional eyes, or even iron blades from their flesh, and developed supernatural powers and abilities that made them terrifying to behold. Cursebloods was the term given to these children. Inwardly innocent as children should be, but outwardly monstrous, the monarchy of Alcmia set out to capture and contain all cursebloods in or entering their sphere of influence. From that initiative, the Royal Blood Readers was formed. An organisation of Blood Hunters trained to hunt down and arrest cursebloods. When captured, they concentrated them in the only remaining settlement of Thraisha, the Locked City of Quafal. Commoners, Merchants, Priests, and even a few members of the royal family were discovered as cursebloods and were carted off to the frigid city. Now you, a descendant of a cursed bloodline, seek freedom. You and your companions must find a way out of the city. Will you find a cure for the curse, acquire the funds to bribe the guards, or become so powerful that nothing can stand in your way?
