About the adventure
You’ll encounter pirates, sea monsters; defend small islands from the undead; and more. Within the costal village, there is political intrigue, where the factions vie for getting the upper hand. You could choose a side or play them off against each other and that just depends on how dangerous a path you wish to follow. As you progress further you’ll likely own a ship to sail the seas and if you choose to, travel the Astral Sea and visit distant realms. The nautical feel of this adventure is present from the start, yet many of the encounters take place on firm ground. The world setting is the realm of Grayhawk, which saw a revival in 2024 when the setting was included in the Dungeon Master’s Guide. With that said, there is no need to know anything about where you are starting, as your horizons will expand across the globe and beyond.

About me
I’m known as Japes (jay-ps) IRL, which is a nickname based on my given name, Jean-Paul. My daughter Abi, is in the LGBT community and seeing her now, as she and her partner buy a house together, makes me feel really proud of what she’s achieved. I feel that every game should be a safe place for all of us to be who we are, and try something that might be seen as ‘off the wall’. I’ve loved the escapism that TTRPGs offer ever since I first GM’d D&D as a child. Since then, I’ve played many different systems and learned one thing above all else: these games are at their best when everyone is having fun. That first game I ran for a group of friends was an interesting experience, and much has improved since then. Please do thank the multiverse of gods that’s true. My initial online games started in 2020, and what began as a single table quickly grew into many. Some of those players, are still playing in my games years later. My favourite D&D character idea is a fairy barbarian who’ll fly over the heads of friends and growl at the enemy, who’d better not laugh at her… So do bring your curiosity, your creativity, and whatever character excites you most to the table, whether that’s a 1920s Black female FBI agent in Call of Cthulhu, something made from sapient pearwood in Discworld, or some bonkers D&D character. Your character is the gateway to your adventure, and I’m here to see you enjoy it.

Creating your character
• D&D Beyond will be used for the character creation. • Ability rolls will be 4d6 dropping lowest. Totals below 74, can be re-rolled, which makes it higher than Points Buy. • A rich nautical backstory will aid you in this adventure setting. • Magical items: found in game. • Original character portrait art to fit the setting and style of your character.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
• A reliable PC, with a Chromium browser. • A working gaming headset or mic and headphones. • Free accounts for systems in use, links provided after joining. • I'll be 'on camera' and ask everyone to do likewise, it makes for a friendlier game.
What Japes brings to the table
• Players of all skill level are welcome, with guidance given if you’re a new to D&D. • I’ll bring some voices to the table and love it when players do to. • Maps, Background music and many great features of FoundryVTT will be in use. • A sprinkle of dry humour that adds a unique flavour.
