About the adventure

It was not long ago that the world was shaken by cataclysm. The War of Souls wrought havoc and ruin upon the world, but now people seek out their new normal. In the frozen north of Nordreyjar, something stirs within the snow. Many travellers and natives have recieved visions; some dreams, some nightmares, with one thing uniting them. Come to Nordreyjar. It has what you seek. You are one such soul. The dreams started a few weeks ago now. What did they show you? Power? A lost love? Did the inspire fear? Betrayal? Seek out the source of these visions. It may hold the answers to what you seek... or only provide more questions. Join me in this RP-Heavy homebrew adventure through frozen lands where you will uncover the source of mysterious visions that plague the world! This campaign features some light horror and survival elements, so do be warned.

About me

I'm a Scottish Actor and Voice Actor with a huge passion for telling interesting collaborative stories. The first time I played D&D was a bit of a disaster, and put me off the game for a long, long time. But, watching Dimension 20 finally spurred me to give it another chance, and, with no one else being willing to DM, I stepped up, and fell in love with it. I had even stepped away from acting for a few years, but it was through playing D&D I regained the confidence and drive to pursue acting again and now I have my degree. Pretty crazy. I'd always done improv, and always loved fantasy, so it just felt right. Since 2022 I've been playing weekly games of D&D, and falling deeper and deeper in love with the game and all that it can do. My acting ability, training and instincts allow me to bring my A game to my games, and I always want to do what tells the best story, even when at times, it makes me cry. It's soppy and ridiculous, but I genuinely want as many people as possible to experience the game, so they can feel what I've felt from the game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Once you have the link to the campaign on D&D Beyond, feel free to start creating and experimenting with the type of character you want to play! I have access to quite a few of the books on there and am open to the use of any class or subclass you like, however, if you wish to homebrew a subclass with me, don't hesitate to ask. I'm more than happy to accommodate any homebrew you might find also, just be sure to run it by me. If there's any particular subclass that you'd like to run but don't have access to on D&D Beyond, ask again, chances are I can recreate it. I like to start my campaigns at Level 3, just to give everyone access to their subclass, furthering the character's identity and making the character feel lived in, and that they have experienced the world somewhat. I like to roll for stats, using 4d6 drop lowest and reroll 1's. I feel this let's characters feel powerful enough to be the heroes within the story. I do give characters 1 extra feat upon creation, and hand out feats, proficiencies and stat bonuses as the campaign progresses. When rolling for stats, I ask that players send me a video of them doing so, just to be fair. (This is just a precaution as a player of mine once happened to start with an 18 in all of their stats before, saying they were just lucky.)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The only accounts you'll need are Discord and D&D beyond. I'll send out a link to both the Discord server and D&D Beyond campaign with enough time to prepare for session 0.

What Greg brings to the table

I always utilize voices for my characters, and encourage my players to as well, if they're comfortable with that. I like ambient music to set the scene, I give my players maps of areas in which we're operating, I always endeavor to hand out any notes or letters the character receives. In terms of combat, I like to keep it intense and fast paced, and I usually don't play with dungeon crawls, as I find they can drag or hog up too many sessions. I would love to be proven wrong some day. I'm much more focused on Rule of Cool as opposed to Rules as Written. I want to reward creativity at the table, and use the rules as a guide to what can be the best experience for everyone.

Safety

How Greg creates a safe table

I'll send over a Lines and Veils document and include a copy of my own lines and veils, and these will be relayed to all players in session 0. We'll discuss the safety tools, using X, N & O cards being either a digital message or a physical signal, whichever the player is most comfortable with. We'll cover the fact the game has an oper door policy - you can leave or take a break whenever you need to. I schedule a break for the middle of the session, just to give us all a small time to recharge! After the game, I give us time to check in with one another, make sure that any feelings from the game are addressed, both positive and negative, and open discussion to any suggestions or critiques.
