About the adventure

A High Tech Diner floats at the edge of a bustling trade hub — a chrome‑and‑neon relic from a bygone era, famous for its synth‑coffee, asteroid‑fried hashbrowns, and the fact that it’s usually neutral ground. Tonight, though, the calm doesn’t last. As you and your friends step out into the glowing parking bay, the air shimmers with heat from passing starships. A few dockworkers argue over cargo manifests. A pair of tourists take holos of the diner’s retro sign. Everything feels normal… until it doesn’t. A sudden crack of plasma fire splits the air. Screams erupt as a trio of space bandits — masked, armored, and riding jury‑rigged grav‑bikes — burst from behind a row of parked shuttles. Their weapons spit neon bolts into the crowd, sending civilians scrambling for cover. One bandit leaps off their bike, grabs a lone bystander — a nervous-looking courier clutching a metal case — and shouts: “We’ve got the package! Move!” The courier struggles, yelling for help, but the bandits drag them toward their waiting transport: a rust‑red dropship with engines already whining to life. People scatter. Security alarms blare. The bandits fire wildly to keep the crowd back. And you’re standing right in the middle of it.

Character creation

Creating your character

Create your character using a Roll20 character sheet and a PDF from Mage Hand Press. Level 1.

The current party

This will be my first time running a Dark Matter Game. It will start on or after February 6th.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need discord and Roll20, both free.

What GM AP brings to the table

I have a variety of sci-fi content on Roll20 as well as a variety of 3rd Party Publisher Content that can be copied/pasted into a Roll20 Character Sheet. I also have Premium Map Packs from a variety of vendors including Tessa Presents, among others.

Homebrew rules

This game will be largely rule of cool as it will be my first run of Dark Matter. Scrolls: Using a spell scroll is an Arcana check: use 10 + spell level − your max spell level if it’s on your list, otherwise use 10 + 2×spell level − your caster level. The action required to use a spell scroll is the action required to cast the spell or 1 action, whichever is less. Potions of Healing: • Bonus Action (in combat): Roll the potion’s healing dice. • Action or Out of Combat: Take the potion’s maximum healing value. Cleaving: If a melee attack drops a creature to 0 HP and you dealt excess damage, you may apply the leftover damage to another target in reach that the original attack roll would have hit. Flanking: You gain +2 to melee attack rolls if: • An ally is directly opposite you on the target, or • You have three or more allies adjacent to the same enemy.

Safety

How GM AP creates a safe table

Every session can be a session 0. I use a session opener that encourages players to use/update their safety tool preferences on an ongoing basis. Also included is the ability of players to create private and/or public threads where they need only state their safety tool concerns and I will avoid it and do my best to steer the players away from said concern and handle any desired discussion of the topic to the best of my ability and seek feedback from the concerned where and when necessary before doing so.
