About the adventure

This game is for those who wish to experience the Pokemon experience in TTRPG format! Using Pokerole 3.0 and a custom spreadsheet that does a lot of auto calculations, we will be doing a lot of Theatre of the Mind as you go through your selected Pokemon Region (or a custom one that includes all types, if you wish!). Preferably, I would like to GM a consistent duo or trio* of out-of-character friends who are willing to put in the time and effort to go from Rookie Rank all the way to Master, and to give you the chance to be the Champion. This journey is going to be personal to your characters, and it will be a challenge. You will need planning, quick thinking, and a good amount of luck to complete the Gym Challenge**! * Each game will have a hard limit of 3 players. ** Gym Challenges are not universal across all regions.

About me

Hello adventurers! My name is Paul Wunnenberg, a gamemaster with 10 years of experience! I have run various systems over in person sessions and online sessions over Discord. I use Avrae to handle online dice rolling, as well as Apollo and when2meet.com to help organize my sessions. I've recently branched out to Foundry VTT in order to experiment with livestreaming campaigns! Some of my other interests include board/video games, travel, pin collecting, and being a self-proclaimed coffee aficionado.

Character creation

Creating your character

Before character creation starts, we must decide on a few things; - Which age group will all characters be at? (Child, Teen, Adult/Senior?) - What region do we wish to play in? (Important note; the GM has only personally played in Kanto, Johto, Unova and Kalos in the mainline games. While they are willing to run an adventure in all regions, they are more experienced there, or by running their own region.) - Do we wish to have a central theme in this pokemon journey? After these questions are answered, character creation will happen either before or during the first session. You will begin at Rookie Rank, alongside a Starter Pokemon of your choosing using the Pokerole 3.0 Handbook.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have a Discord account, familiarity with the Avrae dicebot, and a general understanding of Pokemon!

What Paul brings to the table

I will provide the overarching story beats, a fair difficulty, personalized characters to fit the backstories of each character, and frequent check ins to make sure everyone's having fun!

Homebrew rules

I will have quite a few; - Resonance / Dissonance; Trainers can be inclined to work with certain types that they favor. Those that have those Resonances have an easier time working with that type, but at the cost of being less capable at handling another through a Dissonance. - X-Fold Fights; A novel way of doing Pokemon battles. When a 2-Fold, 3-Fold, or 4-Fold fight happens, Trainers can bring up to their full 6 Pokemon Team into the fight. However, they can only send out a number of pokemon equal to the X. It allows for tactical diversity and adaptability. - Specific Rules on increasing Loyalty, and more ways to increase Happiness. - Joint narrative control of a caught pokemon's behavior between Player and Pokemaster.

Safety

How Paul creates a safe table

We will, at the first session, discuss what things we wish to do during this adventure and what we DON'T wish to do, constructing Lines and Veils during Session 0. I plan to use Stars and Wishes after every session, and players can always DM me about their X's, N's and O's.
