About the adventure

25.01.2025 - Hi everyone. Due to the overwhelming success of running a Crooked Moon campaign within Daggerheart for another group, I have decided to open up another campaign. 🌙 Crooked Moon: A Daggerheart Folktale 🌙 Somewhere, lost in the shrouded realms of death, lies a land of endless night where long-forgotten horrors reveal themselves to travelers in the mist. In a crooked house lives a Crooked Man with a crooked grin, raising his arms to the Crooked Tree at the edge of midnight, where the whispers of the Old Ones seep through the dark. They speak of a beast that stalks both the deepest woods and the darkest hearts, a crown of horns upon its head. If you feel its breath at your neck, run. Not all is silence - follow the songs of harvest and you may stumble upon revelry in the blazing shadows of wicker men, or ride the lonesome rails that wind deeper into the night. But know this: where the Crooked Moon hangs, the hallowed cannot save you. Now reimagined through the Daggerheart ruleset, this folktale tilts ever closer to dread. Fear and hope hang in fragile balance, and every roll of the dice pushes you further into the shadows...or closer to the light. Will you brave the dark wood, survive the witching hour, and weave your own dreadful tale beneath the Crooked Moon? ⚔️ Expect desperate battles under moonlight 🕯️ Haunting folktales that bleed into reality 🎲 Choices that decide whether fear or hope rules the night This is a folklore-horror campaign for Daggerheart. No experience with the system needed - just bring your imagination and a candle for the dark. Transformations This campaign will use the Transformation cards from the Void. Transformations represent changes or augmentations to characters in Daggerheart. For this, you can add one of the following to your character for the campaign: Werewolf, Vampire, Ghost, Reanimated, Shapeshifter, Demigod. Crooked Moon Somewhere, lost in the shrouded realms of death, lies a land of endless night where long-forgotten horrors are revealed to those who travel through the mist. There, in a crooked house lives a Crooked Man with a crooked grin. He raises crooked arms to a Crooked Tree at the edge of midnight and hears the whispers of the Old Ones. They speak of a beast that stalks the darkest woods and darkest hearts, a crown of horns upon its head. If you lose your way and feel a warm breath that chills you to the bone, run. Follow the songs of harvest time, and before long, you’ll find revelry in the dancing shadows of blazing wicker. No matter your story, these lonesome, misty rails will deliver you to where the hallowed cannot save you. Now is the time to brave the dark wood, beware the witching hour, and weave your own dreadful folktale underneath the Crooked Moon.

About me

Hi there thanks for finding me. I’ve been running a DND campaign as a DM for almost two years with a group and have joined a second group as a player. I have been exploring Daggerheart as a system and is my new passion! I believe every game is a story we tell together: equal parts laughter, drama, and “wait, did that just happen?!” I thrive on bringing characters to life, weaving your backstories into the world, and throwing in the right mix of heart and chaos to keep everyone on their toes.

Character creation

Creating your character

You will be able to create a character within Demiplane. Once you are signed up I will send links to create it and content share with you for the campaign. We will import your character and it's portrait directly into Roll20. You will be able to choose a background linked to the Crooked Moon campaign frame which may also come with a feat. You will also be able to tailor your experiences around this as well. Fate weaving Of course, this campaign is the perfect chance to integrate Fateweaving. Threads of Fate are thirteen possible personal story arcs that can be woven into the adventure of The Crooked Moon. Each Thread provides a goal for a character to pursue, plot elements to incorporate into their backstory, player choices that personalize the experience, the call of adventure that sets your character on the path to Druskenvald, and six Narrative Touchpoints throughout the adventure will provide a full character arc and rewards for resolving each step. I’ll be available ahead of Session Zero on Discord if you’d like to chat through ideas, concepts, or questions one-on-one. Whether you want to brainstorm a character hook or just check if your idea fits the tone of Crooked Moon, I’m happy to help. During Session Zero, we’ll: - Explore character options together including backgrounds, feats and experiences. - Check in on everyone’s familiarity with the Daggerheart rules. - Support each other in shaping characters who not only shine individually but also connect to the wider story and its themes of fear and hope. By the time we step into the mist, you’ll be ready to bring your character to life beneath the Crooked Moon.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use Roll20 for maps and integrated rolling through Demiplane. You will be able to roll directly from your characters sheet. For ease of communication between the group, I will also link you to my discord server where you can either Direct Message or use the group channel.

What GM DarkSpyder brings to the table

My games are a mix of rules-as-written clarity but more leans into the Rule of Cool, ensuring you’ll always get both fairness and epic player moments. You can expect: 🎭 NPC Voices & Roleplay – I bring characters to life with distinct voices, mannerisms, and personality so every NPC feels memorable. 🎶 Atmospheric Immersion – Ambient music and sound effects set the tone, from tense encounters to eerie folktales under the Crooked Moon. 🗺️ Dynamic Virtual Maps – Roll20 maps with animations, tokens, and interactive elements to keep both roleplay and combat tactical and visually exciting. 🎲 Fear & Hope Trackers – Core to Daggerheart, I’ll use clear trackers so the tension of every roll is front and centre. ⚔️ Tactical Combat & Roleplay Balance – Expect challenging fights that reward teamwork, interspersed with deep roleplay opportunities that let your choices shape the world. My GM style leans into player spotlight: everyone will get moments to shine, and the story grows from your decisions. If you enjoy folktales, tense encounters, and cinematic storytelling, you’ll feel right at home.

Homebrew rules

Daggerheart is built to be flexible, and I embrace that. The core rules will always be honoured so players feel grounded, but I also make use of the system’s adaptability to keep things exciting and tailored to the story we’re telling. We will use void content and transformations. Critical hits that go over double the severe damage threshold will take a 4th HP off of an adversary or a player.

Safety

How GM DarkSpyder creates a safe table

For any campaign to be successful and enjoyable, player comfort is essential. My table is built on the idea that everyone should feel safe, respected, and able to enjoy themselves fully. Due to the nature of the Crooked Moon narrative, some content may feel intense and scary. Session Zero Check-In – At the start, I’ll confirm lines and veils (what content is off-limits or fade-to-black) so expectations are clear. X-Card Tool – At any point during play, you can type or say “X” to immediately shift the scene or skip content without question or explanation needed. Collaborative Respect – If uncomfortable themes do come up, we’ll move past them quickly and adjust together. Everyone’s voice matters. Content Awareness – During session zero, the controversial content will be shared with all players as a list and discussed under lines and veils. My goal is to make sure the only chills you feel are from the story itself, not from being put in an uncomfortable spot.
