About the adventure
🦇 The Curse of Strahd: A Gothic Horror Epic Welcome, weary traveler, to Barovia, a land perpetually shrouded in mist, suffocating despair, and ancient evil. This campaign focuses heavily on roleplay, atmosphere, difficult moral choices, and the slow, creeping dread of gothic horror. This table looks for dedicated players who prioritize character development and narrative depth over combat optimization. 💀 The Setting: Barovia's Embrace Barovia is a prison. A beautiful (from a certain point of view), cursed, inescapable prison ruled by the ancient vampire, Count Strahd von Zarovich. You and your companions have been drawn into the Mists, perhaps willingly, perhaps not, and now find yourselves in a realm where the sun offers no warmth, the wine mediocre, and hope is a fleeting illusion. This campaign will lean into the following thematic elements: - Atmosphere is King: Expect detailed descriptions of crumbling castles, weeping cemeteries, desolate villages, and the psychological toll of unrelenting despair. - Moral Ambiguity: The people of Barovia are broken. There are no easy answers, and your choices will often involve picking the lesser of two evils. True good is a luxury few can afford here. - Personal Horror: We will explore how the curse of Barovia affects your character specifically. What are their deepest fears, regrets, and temptations? Strahd is not just a monster; he is a manipulator, interested in testing the limits of your soul. - Slow Burn Dread: Combat will be infrequent but deadly, the true threats are the insidious machinations of the setting and its lord. Expect a pace that allows for deep RP, internal monologue, and meticulous planning. 🎭 The Stakes Your ultimate goal is not just to survive, but to find a way out and, perhaps, end the centuries-long suffering of Barovia. Is this a challenge you're willing to take? Life, or worse - neverending unlife, in an acursed realm if you fail.

About me
What Ho, adventurers! I'm JJ, I've been a Dungeon Master running campaigns and one-shots since I got the D&D 3.5e books in 2003. 22 years later, I'm still running weekly games. My experience as a DM ranges from the down-right bizarre such as an all-dwarven one-shot to save Santa, to more serious high-drama and high-fantasy multi-year campaigns. I'm available for one off custom requests covering all of the games I have listed in my profile such as: D&D 5e, D&D 3.5, Pathfinder 2e, LotR 5e, AoS Soulbound, and Star Wars RPG. Requests can be for one-shot sessions or campaigns. If desired, a pre-written campaign is always an option if your party just wants to play something!

Creating your character
Characters will be built in DnDBeyond, once you've signed up you'll recieve a link to the campaign. Once you've made your character the game can begin! Build Rules: - Start at Level 3 - D&D 5e (2024) rules - Standard array for stats This campaign is light on combat, I'd suggest focusing on the detail elements of the PC over optimising the build - All official D&D sources are welcome. - Your character needs a compelling reason to be drawn to, or if already in Barovia, trapped by the Mists - if you need help here let me know
What to expect
Preparing for the session
- Discord & DnD Beyond needed - Roll20 needed - Microphone needed - Headphones suggested but not necessary
What DM JJ brings to the table
- Access to the D&D5e (2024) rules via DnD Beyond - The campaign on D&D Beyond & Roll20 - Session-0 FREE to build the party and kick of the campaing. - A fun and friendly attitude!
Homebrew rules
- Perkin's Crit: Max dice damage plus the roll of the dice then add modifiers. e.g. roll 1d8+2 plus 8 (for the max of the dice) - Secret Death Saves: only the DM and player of the dying PC know how well they are doing - helps build suspense and 'realism' in moments of stress/chaos
