About me

Hi👋, I'm Franc, better known as Golvin. I'd like to be your GM. While I mainly run D&D, Call of Cthulhu, and Alien RPG, my real pleasure is trying new modules and systems. (Cowboy Bebop RPG anyone?) Which has led me to a specialization in running one-shots, often including highly detailed handouts, pre-made characters, and other player aids. I also write the Reviews from the Far Reams Substack newsletter, currently focused on helping others get the most out of Call of Cthulhu 7e modules.

Character creation

Creating your character

Choose one of five pre-made characters or create your own. If making your own, please see character creation guidelines below. (See title for character level. Campaign starts at level 1.) --- Character Creation Guidelines --- - All D&D 2024* content plus setting (The Crooked Moon) and Silvery Barbs only.** - Point Buy or Standard Array for stats. (No rolling.) - At later levels, additional magic items for parity with PCs. I provide all allowed content through Roll20. Players can, if desired, use D&D Beyond along side the Beyond20 browser plug in. But, for its higher error rate and technical issues, I discourage newer players from using D&D Beyond. * D&D 2024, at time of writing, is the core trio (PHB, DMG, and MM), Heroes of Fearun, Adventures in Faerun, and Forge of the Artificer. ** With express permission, players can use official 2014 content, but I do not recommend doing so. It is notably less powerful. (Homebrew and unlisted third party content are banned.)

The current party

Won't be starting until 2/4, as I'm coming off a 1 to 20 and need to prep. (Most notably, pre-made characters.)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To participate in the game, you will need: ✔️A Roll20* account (free), ✔️A Discord account (free), ✔️A microphone, ✔️A headset or quiet space (i.e. no background noise please). *Roll20 doesn't do well with touch screens.

What Golvin - One-Shot GM brings to the table

I provide a quick paced module with 📚All available character creation resources through Roll20. 🎨Handouts crafted to enhance your experience (and clarity) 🧝 5 pre-made characters specific to this adventure, including optional backgrounds and "how to use" guides. (More if you're fine with backstories not quite lining up.) 🕰️ A decade running and teaching D&D among other TTRPG

Homebrew rules

As a rule, I run as close to Rules as Written as possible, unless I changes are required or make more sense. (E.g. snakes are immune to the Prone condition, unless you get creative.)

Safety

How Golvin - One-Shot GM creates a safe table

After joining, players are sent my Line & Veils and ask for theirs in return. Which are then confirmed at the beginning of the session as part of a mini-session 0. During the game, if anything disturbs you, please tell me, leave an "X" in the chat, or privately message me. I will then remove the offending or skip past it. Likewise, if you feel the adventure is going in an unsavory direction but use an "N" instead. I will also check in if I notice anything is off.
