About the adventure
While most employees fight these complaints through their fledgling worker's union, many others have resorted to vandalism, sabotage and theft. Because of the recent turbulence, a local planetary government gathers together a group of investigators, diplomats, and agents to inspect a space station deep within the Arcturus Belt. Station Three serves as a hub for business, commerce, and much needed rest for hard-working asteroid miners. But soon the travellers will uncover that, beneath the veneer of flashing casino lights, it is a place of theft, treachery, and murder. The setting of this miniature campaign is within the Solomani Space less than ten parsecs from Earth! The game's location is somewhat isolated, being primarily aboard a small 200 person space station located in the middle of an asteroid belt (think Star Trek Deep Space 9 or Babylon 5 but with corporate instead of diplomatic intrigue). The primary literary theme found within this campaign is power and corruption. This is a weekly game and players should expect a commitment of about three to four months for a total of twelve to sixteen game sessions. Players who are absent more than twice in a row can expect to be dropped.

I have a very wide spectrum of interest's and am always interested learning and trying out a new game systems! While I usually prefer to use pre-published campaigns as opposed to homemade I have recently both authored and ran several of my player groups through a custom setting based upon World of Darkness. I have successfully ran over three dozen modules from diverse variety of game systems including but not limited to Pathfinder 2e, Starfinder, Shadow of the Demon Lord, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4e, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Call of Cthulhu 7e, Delta Green, Trail of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds and Vampire the Masquerade. I am always eager to learn new things and meet new people.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
All characters will be created prior to the player's first session because character generation in Traveller is something of a miniature game within itself. Upon confirmation of a player joining this Startplaying game, I will send you a link to my discord and then from there will schedule a free 2-3 hour meeting that conforms best to your allotted availability. During this one-on-one character creation, we will discuss your new travellers' species, home world, characteristics, background skills, pre-career education, career history, mustering out benefits, starting equipment as well as finishing details. Later, when we have enough players to start the campaign, I will set up free session zero in which players can meet each other, choose character connections, and assign campaign skill packages. Players who join after session 1 will still get a free meeting to go over character creation, but connections/packages with other players might be resolved over discord or prior to the game session as opposed to a second session zero.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Equipment-wise players are expected to bring a desktop computer or laptop with a stable internet connection and a working microphone. Voice chat and the majority of text messages will be done through a discord server. I will provide the invitation link to the server after players sign up for the game. It is preferred that players have a noise-free environment or set "push to talk" when there is much background noise. Players will need an account for The Forge VTT in addition to a personal computer that can meet the requirements to run the software. Players are not expected to bring rulebooks, to sessions but they can be useful for clarifying or looking up certain rules during a break. The version we are using for this game is the most recent Mongoose Traveller 2nd edition. For those interested in the specific rulebooks that we will be using for this game, this list includes: Core Rulebook 2022 Update, Central Supply Catalog 2023 Update, and Traveller Companion 2024 Update each could be purchased from Drive thru RPG or Mongoose's website.
What James brings to the table
I have been game mastering role-playing games for almost five years now, and I am confident in my abilities. These games require a lot of front end preparation on the part of the Referee in order to run smoothly. Higher quality presentation including VTT maps, handouts, and other visual aids. I will host the game with Foundry VTT and will have all rules prepared ahead of time for this game so you have quick access. I will also create token images for all characters. I have a love for detailed living settings, character-focused roleplaying, and episodic-style storytelling. With that being said, above all else the three most important traits that I possess are my honesty, integrity, and professionalism. Because you are hiring me to be your referee, I consider it my obligation to make sure that you are having a good time. This is a contract and you are my clients. And for those players who are dissatisfied with my services for any reason, I offer a full refund. If you have any other questions about any aspect of this advertisement, feel free to ask.

How James creates a safe table
Before session zero/first session after the player's join, I will schedule a one-on-one meeting to go over character creation, setting/campaign details, and work with the player to make sure their Traveller fits the game, campaign, and rest of the party. After everyone’s characters are created, we will all meet as a group for a free 1-2 hour session zero where I’ll introduce myself and the expectations for this upcoming game including, but not limited to, going over lines and veils. For the first session and onwards, players can expect at least one 5-10 minute bio/water break during the halfway mark of the gaming session. At the end of every session, I prefer to use stars and wishes to get feedback from players about what they liked about the session and an aspect that they want to see going into the next session. As for game play details, this miniature campaign's primary focus is on conspiracies and intrigue. Expect the content of many of the sessions focusing around the gathering rumors, investigating scenes, interviewing witnesses, and finding clues to help your group solve the mystery.
