About the adventure

In the aftermath of the Third World War, Britain did not fall all at once—it fractured. Nuclear strikes shattered London and other major centres, severing national command and leaving regions to fend for themselves. Liverpool survived the bombs, but not the collapse. Riots, shortages, desertion, and disease nearly finished the city. Nearly. By 2001, Liverpool is something rare in the broken world of Twilight: 2000: a city that is coming back. Power does not rest with a president, parliament, or general. Instead, it rests with those who kept the city alive when everything else failed. Dockworkers who controlled food shipments. Medics who kept hospitals running without orders. Transport crews who repaired rail lines for barter instead of pay. Out of necessity, these groups formed the Liverpool Assembly—a foundling government built from unions, neighbourhood councils, and volunteer militias. The Assembly does not rule so much as mediate. It issues ration chits, arbitrates disputes, organizes defence patrols, and keeps the lights on in parts of the city. It has no army—only consent, reputation, and just enough force to keep the peace. For now, it works. But Liverpool is a powder keg. The old order has not fully died. A remnant of the King’s Regiment still occupies fortified civic buildings, clinging to military law and the hope of restored command. The Bootle Syndicate dominates the docks and the black market, their ships and smugglers essential to survival yet always one step from open criminal rule. Across the water, the Wirral Free State stands well-fed and well-armed, watching the city with suspicion and rifles. In the overgrown ruins to the north, the Green Chapel preaches rebirth through nature, healing some and frightening many. Running through it all is the River Mersey—Liverpool’s artery and fault line. Trade, smuggling, and diplomacy flow along its waters. So do gunfire, wreckage, and secrets. Whoever controls the river controls the city’s future, and no one controls it completely. This is not a setting about wandering ruins for scraps—this is a setting about holding something together. About deciding who deserves power, what justice looks like after collapse, and whether a city built on solidarity can survive when old enemies, new ideologies, and scarce resources collide. Liverpool is rebuilding. But peace here is fragile, negotiated day by day— and the next shot on the Mersey could tear it all apart.

About me

Hi, I am a forever DM that has suddenly got a lot of free evening time during the week. I work in education and run games of DnD for my students as well as online for my friends at the weekend. I know that I have above average skills at leading games and I am welcoming to players of all types.

Character creation

Creating your character

Set in the aftermath of World War III (the Twilight War), the game operates on the premise that the United States/NATO and the Soviet Union/Warsaw Pact have fought a lengthy conventional war followed by a limited nuclear war with all its consequences. The player characters are survivors of said war. Session Zero is a critical part of starting a new Twilight2000 campaign. This session sets the foundation for the entire game by establishing characters, discussing themes and boundaries, and ensuring everyone is on the same page. I will start by introducing myself as the Storyteller. We will then talk about the central themes of the campaign, Lines and Veils, and explain the safety tools I use, such as the Luxton Technique. Players will have time to brainstorm and discuss their initial character concepts. I do encourage collaboration and the creation of interwoven backstories. We will also think about the formation of the squad, to determine roles within, or if we will even have squad roles. I will then guide players through the Life Path system before selecting and assigning points to their character’s stats, skills, and gear. I will encourage players to develop a detailed backstory for their character. This will normally happen between the session zero and the first session with support on discord chat channels By the end of Session Zero, players should have fully fleshed-out characters, a clear understanding of the game’s themes and boundaries, and a strong sense of group cohesion and direction.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

At the very least players could watch some war movies and think about a character in a post WW3 apocalypse you would like to play. This video is quite long at 23 mins but is a great source of information https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArFJ1VF9HfU That being said players can come into the game with zero research and still have a fun time as i will be explaining everything in character. The only mandatory aspects for a player are to approach the game with a collaborative and open mindset, and be ready to immerse yourself in the story and work together with your fellow players.

What Mr. B brings to the table

Players will find that as a Storyteller I have the ability to craft compelling narratives and vivid worlds. Creating immersive and dynamic settings that capture players' interests, whilst being able to modifying the story on the fly based on player actions and decisions. System-wise I am able to explain rules, settings, and scenarios clearly and concisely. Alternatively i will actively listen to players’ ideas, concerns, and feedback; Encouraging all players to contribute and feel involved in the story. Players will see that I will keep the game on track, ensuring sessions are well-paced and engaging; concurrently making sure we keep to the game times allotted. I have a FoundryVTT fully set up for the game with all the system details worked in for player ease. I have all the sourcebooks (available to peruse on FoundryVTT), animated maps (where needed), music and ambient sounds.
