About the adventure

Port Ravnica, where the wild meets the refined. Far removed from the Tenth District, all indicators had suggested that the exotic resort destination would be a breezy retirement posting for one of the newer Acq Inc branches. The jungles were full of rare finds that could fetch a pretty gold piece on any Ravnican market, easy jobs even for interns to undertake. "Adventure Tourism" was the latest rage for Ravnica's rich and famous. And the merchant princes of the city kept the pirates at bay ... mostly. In other words, it was considered a low risk, high reward franchise opportunity that employees had been fighting for employment within. Except lately, those numbers had taken a significant nose dive, as a number of employees have been neglecting to show up for their shifts. You've been asked to report for office duty in due haste. IIT (Izzet Instant Teleportation) has been office-commissioned to get to the bottom of this, all Guild bureaucracy be-damned. Take the nearest circle to Port Ravnica. Find out why our field agents haven't been coming back. Then we'll perform our viability assessment based on your findings. Take this map. Report to the branch office. Don't worry about showering. *** Welcome to the Tomb of Bolas. You start out as an adventurer working out of one of Ravnica's Acquisitions Incorporated branches. Some of the resources this ongoing campaign will be using will be: - Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica - Acquisitions Incorporated - Tomb of Annihilation - Ghosts of Saltmarsh - Tales From the Yawning Portal We will also be using both 2024 Core Rules, but also making allowances for 2014 if players are using species presented in the Ravnica sourcebook. While all of this sounds advanced, this IS a beginner friendly campaign. We'll only be using the following platforms: - Discord - Theatre of the Mind We will also be using the following "options": - Tomb of Annihilation Death Roll variant - 2014 DMG Long Rest variant - 2024 DMG Bastions variant These, and any additional house rules, will be discussed on session 0.

About me

Welcome to my table! Pull up a chair. What'll your game be? Chance, perhaps? Skill? You look like an adventurous sort, so I'm going to guess you're here for a game of ... dice. Or maybe it's the story that you're after. I've got many of those. If you've got the time, of course. Stories about spies and explorers, pirates and thieves. Stories about lairs of liches, dens of dragons, and castles of kings. But, might it be that you're the one with the story to share? Be careful. I might steal it and add it to my collection! This here is my tavern. It's a simple sort. My usual clientele aren't much for comfy seats or fine wine. More often than not they're here for a little theatre and a little discord, and that's about it. You'll find that artwork does not survive long on my walls. And yes, of course we have fights here. It's a tavern, isn't it? So, why do I do what I do? Because I love it. Seriously though. I didn't start out as a tavern keeper. Had to earn my way up, advance up the ladder, so to speak. Are there better taverns and tavern keepers out there? Of course! But I like my little tavern. And besides ... something brought you here, didn't it? Well don't just stand there. Have a seat!

Character creation

Creating your character

I prefer to create characters with the players. I provide all relevant information to them prior to their first session, and session 0 is all about character creation and player expectation. My stock characters use the Standard Array, but I'm open to rolling 4d6 and dropping one, or the Grid. Starting level is whatever level your party is at, or lower if you wish. All 2024 classes are options. All Ravnica and 2024 PHB species are options, and all backgrounds found in the source materials listed above are available. Others may become available on discovery.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We play through Discord Video (optional) and Voice We play by the trust system for dice rolling.

What Dusk brings to the table

Hi! It's a pleasure to meet you! I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons for 30+ years. I have also played World of Darkness systems, and Pathfinder systems. Most of those years have been as the GM for my groups. I prefer to keep things light-hearted but moving in a direction, though what that direction happens to be, I leave to my players. I use a few accents but it's mostly for tone, and the Rule of Cool typically trumps all others. Believe it or not, I rely strictly on 100% exploration, and through said exploration, roleplaying and combat always ensues. Usually more roleplaying than combat.

Homebrew rules

I use one Homebrew Rule: I don't tell you how much damage YOU take, I only keep track of it, and let you know when you are in the Bloodied state. If you or any of your party possess an ability that can effectively adjust a potential hit or affect the combat result in any way, a player will take a successful attack. Critical hits will also result in successful attacks. All other successful attacks may appear to miss their target, though only just, if they do.

Safety

How Dusk creates a safe table

I don't go out of my way to include things in my games that make others uncomfortable, nor do I tolerate it if any of my players do. The game is meant to be fun, heroic, and adventurous, and I focus on giving that experience to each player. I do not tolerate name-calling or bigotry at my table. You'll be asked to leave, no questions asked. As I open these sessions to players of all ages, I expect adults to act as adults when minors are accompanied by their parents/guardians. We were all kids once.
