About the adventure
Welcome players, to Kavaala! A homebrew setting full of factions, warfare, political intrigue, and plenty of monster slaying! I have run this setting for over 3 years now and have a long term campaign ready for you. It is a high fantasy campaign, where access to magic is indicative of economic standing and is a resource hard-fought over. The themes of this adventure include colonization, war, and revolution. Factions are the core focus to this campaign, as I keep track of each players relation to each faction as well as important NPC's, which will mechanically affect everything from simple dialogue skill checks, to having an army's support during a battle! New players as well as veterans are welcome, and pre-generated characters will be available for those who want them. I''m also running things pretty close to by-the-book for the 5e 2024 edition of DnD so it will help beginners get used to the core system (though character flavor can be as creative as you want). Message me with any questions you have. Hope to see ya there!

View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Characters will be made rules as written according to the 2024 DnD PHB, as well as 2014 expansions such as Tashas, XGE, etc. starting at level 3. All backgrounds, classes and subclasses are allowed and will have standard equipment + 1 common rarity magic item. Use point buy or standard array for abillity scores. Full backstories aren't necessary (unless you have fun writing it of course) but have some idea of your character's general background and what they did before they started adventuring Characters can be made either on DnD Beyond and the link shared to me or simply send me a PDF version.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please have a character ready for session 1 per the outline listed in the character creation section. We will have a session 0 if you want to use that time to create your character and ask me quesitons. I use discord for voice communication and a server will be made for the session. For our VTT I use Owlbear Rodeo. It is free and browser based, requiring only an email address to make an account.
What William brings to the table
Fillable versions of both character sheets as well as the lines and veils document will be provided. I create almost all the maps to be used in my adventures using Dragon Map Maker. I attempt to make combat encounters more interactive through the map design, so feel free to pick up any objects you see and throw em at a goblin! Ambient music will be done through the Discord group listening features as well as screen sharing if the situation calls for it. I sometimes will do a voice for more extreme characters ( I.E. a demon or lich would sound very different than a humanoid) but otherwise I tend to stick closely to my regular voice. I try to stick to rules as written or already discussed homebrew rules for most situations, but am willing to grant rule of cool if I feel it would enhance everyone's fun.
Homebrew rules
You roll your damage dice and attack roll dice at the same time, just for time saving purposes. Potions take a bonus action to heal.

Safety
How William creates a safe table
At Session 0 we will go over all safety rules and discuss what things are allowed at the table. The lines and veils document will be sent out for everyone to complete (note: if one of the topics in the content warnings section is a hard line for you then it may be safer to not participate). X, N, & O cards will be simply messaged in the chat publicly to let everyone know how to proceed.
