Isles of Mercy
The Goddess flooded the world and abandoned us. Now, without her to believe in, stories run wild and true on the few small isles that remain.

About the adventure
A island hopping pirate game for the compassionate and adventurous! With a group of wanna-be-heroes, a couple of inadvisable decisions, hearts of gold, and a stolen ship, what can't you do? Though one must always remember: - listen to the stories told behind cupped hands in hushed tones, - avoid the conservatory and all those white, spotless cloaks, - those born water-side are far more honest than those soiled, - and all good things come in fours. A loose and warm game with a sense of wonder. Perfect for those who enjoy writing thought out narratives, creating connections with PCs and NPCs alike, and creating characters you'll remember fondly. Most of the plot is created after players bring their characters to the table. Your decisions matter! And the game is not complete without everyone's ideas of how to make the setting our own. Players should come to the table with a familiarity with D&D (there is no quiz, you're allowed to not know the rules completely), bright characters, a willingness to put up with all my character voices, and a want to adventure! Sea, Skies, and Stars. With them to guide you, what else could you need?

About me
Hello!! My name is Isabella, and I’ve been GM-ing for a while now!! 5 years isn’t too shabby if I do say so myself. I’m a big fantasy nerd, an all around artist, an avid reader, and a firm believer in going to the Ren-fair at least once a year (if you can swing it). I’m 20! So if you’re young and looking for a GM who will get your references I’m absolutely your girl! As a college student and an employee of a book non-profit I know that life can get in the way, so we gotta take every chance to have a little bit of light while it's here<3

Creating your character
You can start thinking now! In a world made up entirely with islands, where you have lamps but not steel, relics but not magic academies, and ships but not the printing press, who would you be? In a world where the tall-tales you are told as a child are endlessly playing out on the island you live on, would you go try and find them? Players are encouraged to write characters with room for growth and change and discouraged from writing the types of characters that might be described as an "edgy emo loner" all my love to them, but we don't want to listen to the list of everything that went wrong in your life. Have fun! Enjoy a bit of magic! Isles of Mercy is a homebrew world with 4 humanic races- Human - What's on the tin. They look like you or me with a hint of color thrown in: colorful eyes, hair and patterns marked on their skin. Those belonging to notable houses might have notable marks, eyes, or hair colors as well. These are genetic, you might have a parent's color, or both mixed together! However, are not inherently magical. Humans who have magic are an anomaly. Folk - Those having some of or most of the trait's of a woodland creature. One might have antlers, horns, hooves, large ears, a couple of wiskers, fur, or is just straight up a 3 foot mouse. Carnivores are notably absent. (Called x-folk, ie rabbit-folk, lamb-folk, deer-folk etc) Serenic - Those who have the ability to breathe under-water, though not as well defined as folk, there are the dragon like A'longs to the Tortles and Tritons you know and love. Maybe one day you just walked out of the sea! Pull an H2O and turn mermaid when you fall off the ship, or pull a little mermaid and give up your fins for feet, go nuts! Aviators - They aren't birds, but what they are exactly is unknown. Winged people that can fly, (albeit slowly and a bit clumsy) can be both much shorter and much taller than humans, and notably lack the color enate in humans with a pallet of browns, blacks and whites, but the wings often come tinged or doused in a metalic sheen: copper, bronze, gold, silver, etc.) Starting at level 3, the core D&D classes are welcomed, stats are point-by, bring an entire backstory to session 0 or just a couple of thoughts and doodles! My one request - Bring a character to the table that WANTS to be friends with the others.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You need a Discord account and... idk a good attitude? I'm kidding but that's really all you need. Unless all players decide they want to start we won't even be using our cameras (god I'm getting zoom-school flashbacks already).
What Isabella brings to the table
Due to commonly playing with those who have audio-processing disorders, I do not run, and do not intend to start running, games with music in the background. I also, (and please don't murder me for this) don't need you to be staring at your screen and taking the most diligent notes to play. I am a big fan of you having a physical task you are doing to focus on the game (I have players who draw, pace, make paper stars, and shoutout to my player Craig who once played a Triton and, I kid you not, pulled up Youtube compilations of fishtanks to watch as we played) no, players are not welcome to start doing the dishes during the session, but I won't yell at you for doing embroidery while we play. If you are the type to become distracted or restless, please come to session with something to keep your mind calm or your senses occupied. I will not punish you for not taking notes, if I have given you information I will recall it if you ask, but I won't recall your theories or comments. Those are for you to create and discard as you wish. Ok let's do a quick speed run, - A 10 minute break mid-session is included. - I do character voices, and though you can, you don't have to! - Combat is run through Discord Screenshare, I draw all my maps, tokens, and the destruction you rain down on your enemies. - I won't hit you with a full Rule of cool if you whif it with a nat 2, but I will certainly RoC a 12 or the like for your acrobatics tricks and such. - When you have played 5 sessions with me you will get a sketch of your character! Can't say it will be fantastic, but it will be your little guy<3
Homebrew rules
Homebrew Rules!! - Drinking a potion as a bonus action, duh. - When you take over half your hit points in a single hit you gain a scar that cannot be healed by magic. - The only components you need for spellcasting are those that cost gold or gems. (AKA, No you don’t need wire or a cocoon to cast magic) - You decide what your magic looks like, hit me with that flair. - Last Stand: When you reach O HP, but before you roll a death saving throw, you can declare you are taking a last stand, When you declare your last stand… 1. You can take turns as normal, making death saving throws at the end of your turn. 2. You cannot be healed above O HP, until you have rolled 3 successful death saving throws 3. Each attack against you is a failed death saving throw. - Take the Bullet: If an ally of yours within 10 feet gets hit with any kind of attack you can use your reaction to 'Take the Bullet' 1. You push your ally into an unoccupied space as you take theirs 2. The attack becomes a critical hit, and a critical hit becomes a max damage crit. 3. This is meant to be used sparingly for the biggest impact - If you choose to play a mage who specifies in a specific element then you can elect to change the element of a or multiple spells. This can mean changing the way the spell works and it’s abilities but once you change the element, you cannot change it back. (AKA you can turn the Wall of Flame into Wall of Wave for your Little Mermaid TM character, but you cannot change it back to the original once you have an encounter with a Yeti.) - The Tipsy Topsy Table!! - When you get drunk, roll a D100 and spill a secret based on the table. Ones place decides the severity of the secret while the tens place decides the type. 0-9 -> Family 10-19 -> Love Life 20-29 -> Childhood 30-39 -> Adventure 40-49 -> Fears and Regrets 50-59 -> Hopes and Desires 60-69 -> Party Relations 70-79 -> Friends 80-89 -> Ideals and Flaws 90-99 -> Stories and Scars 100 -> Your Deepest, Darkest Secret TM - If you fade to black, roll a D100, a 69 results in a bundle of joy. (This is a joke...... mostly.)

How Isabella creates a safe table
I'll be sending a Stoplight sheet to go over the basics and I will be compiling a master sheet to refer to in the notes channel. That said, I encourage and expect players to dm me with concerns, new boundaries, or if they simply need to leave the table if they do not want to say so out loud.
