About the adventure

I am Davatu the Watcher, I have seen many realities. I am pledged to observe and never to interfere. You have read of the tales of a group of heroes that came together in a time unlike any other when the Earth was tormented and attacked, a world about to break. In those tales a group of brave heroes such as Thor, Iron Man, Ant Man, Wasp and the Hulk joined forces to defend the Earth from such as Loki. In other realities, a different group of mighty heroes arose and this is their tale. This will be a Marvel Multiverse campaign starting from Rank 1 with your own characters (or any Marvel character template in my Demiplane) and progressing to Rank 6 where you are the actual Avengers of this Earth. Characters should be mostly Heroic. Your resources will be Avengers level - Quinjets, headquarters, a salary, etc. The time frame will be loosely the 1980s-1990s and the setting will be Marvel New York City. It is not required that you know the lore of Marvel in this setting, but I am an old Marvel comic book nerd so you will get a little more out of it if you are. The villains you face will be mostly classic villains of the Marvel Universe in this time - Arnim Zola, Doctor Doom, Kang, Red Skull Ultron, Thanos however when we create characters I would like to work with each player to create a nemesis for their hero that is personal for their character.

About me

A man of many hobbies, but table top roleplaying will always be my favorite one. I have been playing various RPGs for 43 years, and GMing for most of that time. What I live for in gaming is those special moments when something happens and the entire table laughs so hard they have trouble breathing. The moment when in a horror game you actually feel a skin tingling fear. When RPG pirates are so moved by camaraderie that one player writes a sea chanty about it to sing in game. When a perfect plot element comes together and we all cheer. To me that is the way to "win" an RPG - to create real fun for the whole group. I believe that all sorts of approaches can create that fun - crunchy or role play heavy, old systems and new systems, theatre of the mind and tactical role play. My intent is always to try make that possible for everyone at the table through things like sharing the spotlight, calling out your character backstory, and creating stories that revolve strongly around a given character. I also endeavor to never leave you "stuck" for a way forward on a plot. I aspire to be a fan of the player characters.

Character creation

Creating your character

The first session will be a long Session Zero - 1. We will establish Lines, Veils, and the use of the X card and safety cards. 2. Characters will be created in my Demiplane group unless the character builder won't make your character sheet for some reason, then Roll20 will be optional. 3. This will also be the Session to ask questions about your characters, share ideas, and establish your nemesis(es) for your starting characters. Every character should have at least one nemesis (but this could be and organization or a Force of Nature, etc). This nemesis will appear in the campaign, likely several times. 4. I would like each character to have at least one background NPC as well that matters to them (parent, sibling, partner, etc). More is fine. This NPC will have a name, a relationship and a description of the bond. 5. Starting Rank will be 1, but advancement to Rank 2 and 3 will be swift. You can reasonably expect that character death will be rare and very non-permanent (comic book reality). Character concept should trend to four color big darn heroes.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All players should have access to Discord, I have a Discord and that is the core communications channel for this campaign and all links will be found there. Please familiarize yourself with how text channels work. All players should have access to Roll20 for the virtual table top, dice rolling and background music. All players should have the ability to access my Demiplane Marvel group for character creation and character builders. I have access to the full set of Marvel expansions for Demiplane and Roll20.

What GM Dayv brings to the table

What I bring to the table is exuberance for gaming and a joy of super hero games in particular. Expect the feeling of animated superheroes and the surrounding will be over the top and high energy. I love to do voices and Marvel has some great villains for this type of thing. I will monologue any chance I get. Marvel Multiverse is rules lite but with an Avengers setting you can expect combat to be frequent. I am a Rule of Cool GM by far, the rules are there to help us have fun.

Homebrew rules
