About the adventure

This campaign is Rime of the Frostmaiden (as a Domain of Dread in Ravenloft) + Vecna: Eve of Ruin. Both adventures have been woven together seamlessly from the inception. Come join us for this full-scale campaign. šŸ”¹ System: Dungeons & Dragons 5e (2024+Expanded) šŸ”¹ Setting: Icewind Dale—now a Domain of Dread, then the Multiverse šŸ”¹ Theme: Isolation, paranoia, and survival in an eternal winter šŸ”¹ Tone: Slow-burn horror with high RP, adventure horror-style action, and moments of bleak levity šŸ”¹ Game Style: Open-world sandbox with consequences For over thirty years, the sun has not risen. The sky is a swirling void of black clouds and pale, frozen stars. The wind cuts deep, howling through abandoned cabins and ice-crusted ruins. The people of the Ten-Towns are on the edge of collapse, and when survival is the only thing that matters, the line between right and wrong shatters like brittle ice. You are trapped here. There is no road out, no safe haven, no relief from the cold. But there are secrets in the ice—secrets that may hold the key to breaking this endless winter. What price are you willing to pay for survival? WHAT TO EXPECT: 🩸 A Living Nightmare of Ice and Isolation – The cold is relentless, the people are desperate, and every step into the wilderness leads deeper into the unknown. As the story unfolds, the horror will take many forms—as though the darkness knows what it is that makes you tremble in the night. šŸŽ Roleplay-Heavy, Player-Driven Storytelling – This is a sandbox survival horror. You decide how you navigate the paranoia, how you handle the people of the Ten-Towns, and where your journey takes you. Your choices will shape the world and the destinies of those around you. āš”ļø Brutal, Cinematic Combat – Every battle will feel desperate as it could be your last. The creatures of the Dale are more than just encounters—they are threats, each one unique, intelligent, and deadly in its own way. Combat will be thrilling, but survival will demand more than just steel and spells. šŸ’€ The Frostmaiden Watches – Auril is neither a distant figure, nor is she a passive force. She is aware of those who defy her, and she will not suffer interlopers lightly. The longer you resist, the closer she comes. šŸ˜‚ A Table of Friends, Not Grimdark Edgelords – The game will be spooky, not miserable. Expect eerie tension, unsettling mystery, and horror built from atmosphere rather than shock. But we’re here to have fun, and dark humor thrives in desperate times. Looking for a few more brave souls to join us in this nightmare. If you love horror, survival, and player-driven narratives—but don’t want to do Curse of Strahd again—this is for you.

About me

Greetings! Here at Nym's Adventures, we believe in a player-oriented approach to pay-to-play tabletop gaming. We're here to bring your stories to the forefront of the adventures published by Wizards of the Coast. We use the modules as a backbone to craft customized sessions for your characters. I began running online games in Summer 2019 after playing with several game masters who didn't seem to care what the players were trying to say with their characters or with their choices. I decided to give the community the kind of attention and enthusiasm I wanted to see in a game master. I've been trying to embody that ideal ever since.

Character creation

Creating your character

We create characters during Session 00. You should come prepared with three basic ideas, but leave them open to adjustment for special story stuff, to fit in better with the party members, and to make a backstory that fits the adventure. This way your character arc actually has a chance to actualize during the campaign. We do point buy and build using the 2024 process. We're starting at level 1 to really lean into the horror from the start. Each character will have the opportunity to choose a boon based on their story concept and niche in the group. (Think something like a magic item, a bonus to stats, an extra origin feat, or a Dark Gift). All 2024 Core and 'Expanded' material is allowed. Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft is recommended.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

YOU WILL NEED: - Accounts for Discord, Roll20, DnD Beyond (and SPG of course!) - A microphone with a headset (Please, no echoes from your speakers) - Respect for people

What Nym's Adventures brings to the table

We bring everything you need except your character sheet and character art! You'll have access to tons of tools and extras on Roll20. If we don't have it, we can get it. We use Discord for out of character communication and as our meeting space for Game Time. I love to do voices and I'm adding more sound effects to the soundboard every week! Discord is also where we keep track of the session summaries. We use Roll20 as our digital tabletop. I also use it for background ambience and combat music so it can be turned on/off without affecting the meeting on Discord. You can use DnD Beyond *or* Roll20 for your character sheet, whichever you prefer. We're using 2024 rules, including the guidance for integrating 'Expanded' material. If anything has a new version though, we use that version.

Homebrew rules

This is a domain of dread, so Van Richten's is heavily encouraged during CC.

Safety

How Nym's Adventures creates a safe table

When you join, you'll receive a welcome message from Nym. It will include the links for the Discord, Roll20, Dnd Beyond campaign. There will be a channel in Discord where our safety tools are available. Session 00 is a fun, thorough process where we get to know one another and build characters who fit together in the world instead of a bunch of randos in a tavern.
