About the adventure
🕯 A grounded psychological mystery set in a small, quiet town where no one fully understands the truth they’re telling. 🕵️ Investigation in this game is driven by character conversations, observation, and player decisions. Dice rolls carry real narrative weight and can push the story in unexpected directions - even for the GM. - Investigation & social interaction - Uneasy atmosphere and slow-burn tension - I prioritize player agency and internal logic over fixed story beats. - This is a focused 2–4 session story, designed to end, not drift. ⚔️ Combat exists, but it is rare, grounded, and dangerous. ⭐ What play at my table looks like: A real table moment showing investigation, player coordination, and pacing during a tense social scene. https://youtu.be/3kQ_RMGdwGg

About me
🕯️ Hi, I’m Alex. I enjoy patiently listening to how players think, react, and talk their way through slow-burn mystery games set in small towns with secrets. My games sometimes include supernatural elements and unsettling moments, but player agency always comes first. I’m most interested in how characters interpret incomplete information and what they choose to prioritize under pressure. 🗝️ My tables are roleplay-heavy and combat-light, focused on atmosphere, character interaction, and consequences rather than performance or spectacle. 📼 If you’d like a sense of how my games feel in practice, here’s a short, unedited clip from an actual play session: https://youtu.be/3kQ_RMGdwGg

Creating your character
The party is hired by local authorities to investigate a missing person. Characters are expected to take the job seriously and work as part of a team. - Create your character on D&D Beyond using the official D&D 5e rules (2014 or 2024). - Use the standard array for ability scores. A short, beginner-friendly guide to creating a character on D&D Beyond (takes about 10 minutes) is available on the game’s Discord server.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
- A character sheet on D&D Beyond - The AboveVTT extension installed (Chrome or Firefox) - A stable microphone and headphones - A webcam is welcome, but voice-only play is completely fine All setup links and a short walkthrough are available on the game’s Discord server.
What Alex Lantz brings to the table
I run immersive, atmosphere-driven games focused on roleplay and investigation. You can expect: - In-character NPC voices - Ambient sound and music - Clear, custom maps - Collaborative storytelling shaped by player choices and dice rolls The focus is always on the table and the players — not on spectacle, but on meaningful choices.
Homebrew rules
I primarily follow the official D&D 5e rules (2014/2024). If I make a mistake, you’re welcome to point it out - respectfully - and we’ll correct it. If a rules disagreement arises during play, I may make a quick ruling to keep the game moving. We can always revisit the rule after the session and discuss it calmly on Discord. The goal is clarity and momentum at the table, not winning rules debates.

Safety
How Alex Lantz creates a safe table
I handle player comfort through clear communication and mutual respect at the table. I use a simple, low-friction approach to safety tools. X, N, and O signals are handled through direct communication - players can speak up during play or message me privately on Discord at any time. If a pause or adjustment is needed, we take a short break and move on without drawing unnecessary attention to the issue.
