About the adventure

Set in a mid-industrial steampunk world, where magic is incredibly scarce, use firearms, alchemy, and wit to uncover the secrets of the new world and the truth behind the attacks that brought it to its knees. Intended for players of all kinds, the adventure begins with 2/4 characters classless and at level 0, with the intent of wrapping up at or around level 20. Due to the exclusion of magic from the early game, some homebrew mechanics were added to allow for spellcasting adjacent gameplay early on. The game focuses heavily on role play, and decision making, and though combat is present, the party will rarely feel overpowered or godlike. Running will sometimes be the best option. This game is for other story writers, people who are willing to take the characters they’re given and make something of them. In the end this is a story of earned Independence, and the characters will learn to use their cunning to carve new paths for themselves.

About me

Free session 0 for all games!!! Hi! I’m Jake, I’m 20 years old and I’m an art student, I’ve been playing dungeons and dragons since I was a kid but have started taking it more seriously over the past few years. I really enjoy storytelling and world-building, which often serve as the focal points in my campaigns. I ran my first professional game for a group a few years ago but took a step away from D&D as a whole when I began going to school full time. This, however, resulted in me getting quite a lot of practice in the arts, and I believe it helped my campaign creation as a whole.

Character creation

Creating your character

Free session 0!!! Players will choose from a selection of characters, who will ALL be extremely relevant in the story. Players are encouraged to make these characters their own, making decisions that will alter gameplay. The characters are also low level, which allows for more breathing room on the players end to do as they wish with what they’re provided. Character sheets can either be handled by myself or the player, at their discretion.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a discord account as well as a roll20 account ready. If the party doesn’t wish to use roll20, I can set up an overhead camera on a battlemap and use traditional miniatures.

What Jake brings to the table

I encourage you to check out my profile page, where I describe a majority of my play style. I love the use of sound to create immersion, using music and effects. Rules, as written in the books, are helpful tools to use as guidelines, and I believe that often these rules can be stretched without altering the outcome of a given scenario. I focus mainly on immersion and storytelling, though most people should find parts of my campaigns they enjoy.

Homebrew rules

My “house rules” are always as follows Healing potions are free actions When spell slots are exhausted, a player can take one level of exhaustion per spell level they wish to cast, this gets dangerous and can kill player characters if a high level spell is used. More specifics can be brought up in session 0. (I saw this online once upon a time and love the way it plays) Armor works slightly differently than 5e, with armor carrying AC bonuses intended to be stacked, for example, a helmet would reduce movement by 5ft but provide a +3 AC bonus. In addition, movement is increased to a default of 35ft to accommodate heavier armor sets.

Safety

How Jake creates a safe table

This is always up to the players, I’m used to playing with my friends, where I understand and know their tastes and boundaries, I expect players to be open and honest with me before the campaign truly starts, and in return I’ll try my best to accommodate people as they see fit. Each session will be accompanied by a handout detailing the content it contains.
