About the adventure

Interested in playing in your first campaign? Do you still consider yourself new to playing D&D? Or maybe you're a brave person with no prior D&D experience at all, but want to jump into a real multi-session story that will have you thinking about the game even between session, eagerly waiting for game night to come? Then Heroes of the Borderlands, is an ideal campaign for you! It's made for new players, with basic rules and premade characters ready to go! Your home is under attack! Kobolds, goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears and even bandit gangs have been streaming out the Desertmouth Mountains and flooding the countryside! You helped the few militia men that could be spared defend your home village from waves of attacks. But while they have been stopped for the moment. It's only a matter of time before its overrun if the source of this invasion cannot be stopped. The Keep on the Borderlands stands guard before the rising tide of attacks. And the Castellan of the keep has called for heroes to come to its aid. You know the only hope for Daggerdale and your home is to stop these attacks before they overwhelm the keep and drown the enter Dalelands in chaos! The keep must hold and maybe you can just find a way to stop these attacks at its source. Heroes of the Borderlands is a re-imagining of the classic Basic Dungeons and Dragon game adventure, Module B2: Keep on the Borderlands originally published in 1979 by TSR and written by Gary Gygax. Made now, for Dungeons and Dragons 5e 2024 rules, it has been made to help new players learn D&D and roleplaying. The digital edition uses D&D Beyond Maps VTT and allows for players to explore more than the basic rules included with the physical edition of the game or stick to the basics. I'm eager to help bring new players into the game, using the same adventure I played as a pre-teen!

About me

I started being a DM in the early 1980s, when I was a pre-teen, with the Basic Dungeons and Dragons box set. Like most DMs, I started being a DM because someone had to do it and I was the most motivated to play in my friend groups. I've since played several versions of D&D. I skipped 4th edition and only recently got back to the 5th edition. I've played many other games in my life and I may choose to run classic games from my college days in the 1990s. But, I'm starting with D&D 5th ed 2024, running games for new players 18+ to try and expand the hobby and build groups that will want to continue playing for years to come.

What Byron brings to the table

I am not an entertainer in real life, but I will try to imbue NPCs with a voice and personality. Combats will have tactically intelligent opponents when appropriate and dull, instinctual behavior when facing unintelligent creatures. Rules as written until and unless it doesn’t serve the game and story, at which point I do the cool thing. Then game has a bit more backstory and motivation than as strictly written, some npcs will have more color than described as the game is for novice DMs as well as new players.

Homebrew rules

Milestone leveling will be slightly modified from the published adventure to reward exploring the Wilderness. Random magic times will be tailored slightly to ones the party will find useful (such as making the magic armor of a type a player can use) Players are allowed to use any Class, Race or Background and feats from the D&D Beyond Free rules or D&D Players Handbook 5e 2024 rules. This adventure, as published, limits long rests to within the keep. This will be used and additionally, you must rest in a room you rent, purchase or allowed to use by a friendly NPC. Check discord for any new homebrew rules in play.
