About the adventure
So you've wanted to play some D&D but are unsure as to where to start? Perhaps you're looking for a casual, easy to drop in game that doesn't get too complicated? Or maybe you want to see how my game master style looks without committing to a whole campaign? Whatever the case, this is the game for you! This one shot covers a custom made dungeon that aims to be a good introduction to those new to Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. It contains some puzzles, some combat, and some roleplaying, that way it may function as a well rounded start! In this game, you'll get to learn about: - ❓ How this game works! What do Players do? What does the DM do? - 📜 The basics of a character sheet and what player characters are capable of! - 👊 Combat, Roleplaying, Puzzle Solving, Exploration, and other integral parts of the game! - 🗺️ Owlbear Rodeo, a Virtual Tabletop used for Online Roleplaying Games, and how to use it! This game focuses on a custom made dungeon! In addition to learning everything above, through exploring it this dark and potentially evil lair, you'll get to: -💥 Face off against enemies in three epic battles, featuring a different kind of monster each (Including an awesome, freezing, larger than life boss fight!) - 🧩 Solve puzzles to unlock new areas and progress the story! -🧠 Use your character, along with your creativity, to the fullest! -🍿 Enjoy an action packed story narrated like your own personal anime story! - 👑 And of course, most important of all, you'll get some really cool loot! Including some awesome magical items! Don't know how to make a character for the game? No problem! You can join this one-shot even if you spotted it an hour before start time, as you'll be using one of twelve premade level 3 adventurers! Hello! The name's Hector, but you can call me Alex! I've got five or so years of experience under my belt in Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition, both as a DM and as a player! Creating your character
As I mentioned earlier, you do not have to have a character prepared for this game, as you can pick from a list of pre-made characters to use when you join this adventure! The reason for these pre-made characters is to help with the stress of starting the game! Making a character can be complicated, and I want you to have the easiest playing experience possible for this one shot ^^ These pre-generated characters are formatted differently than a normal character sheet for ease of sharing and to make all the information less daunting if you've never worked a full D&D character sheet before. A full list of characters will be shared if you've messaged me (Either here on Startplaying or on Discord (Handle is [hacthegreat] ), but there is one character for every class in the current D&D 5th Edition! If you already have or want to make a character for this one shot, then that is totally cool as well! But it must be prepared ahead of time and submitted to me before the session for review. If you do bring a character for this one shot, they must be made for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition (2024). The characters must be level 3, using material only from the Player's Handbook (2024). If there are any questions if you're making a character ahead of time, also message me! I'll answer what I can provided there is enough time ^^
What to expect
Preparing for the session
There are only three things you'll need for this game: 1. A Discord account 2. An Owlbear Rodeo account 3. A computer connected to the internet A computer is highly recommended over a mobile phone or other device, as Owlbear Rodeo is a Browser Based platform that can be a bit messy on mobile devices.
What HACtheGREAT (Alex) brings to the table
So, how will this adventure feel? What am I providing to this? With my DMing style, your story in this one shot will feel huge. While I follow the mechanics, I'm not above an exaggerated description of how you blast an enemy with a spell or masterfully bash them with a hammer. I bring a dramatic and colorful energy to the world you're exploring, with well thought out combat that uses the "Rule of Cool" to make things feel special! A full map for the dungeon, (integrated with shadows and secrets!), tokens for everyone and everything, voices for the non-player characters (NPCs), and music for when things are really going down, are all additional things I supply to help you get fully immersed in the tale!
Homebrew rules
I do have a few homebrew (Custom) rules, those being for quality of life over crazy mechanics: - Drinking a Potion is faster than normal, taking only a Bonus Action - Spell Scrolls can be used by anybody

How HACtheGREAT (Alex) creates a safe table
As a oneshot is pretty drop and get right into things, it's a bit harder to use major safety tools as I would in a campaign. That said, when you've messaged me about joining, I have a consent checklist that you may fill out so I and other players (Or just me, if you prefer) can have an idea of anything you may not want in the game. Additionally, on Owlbear (the Virtual Tabletop), I have added an extension that allows you to send an anonymous message to the party (including me) if you're feeling uncomfortable, using a Green, Yellow, Red format. The Safety tool(s) can be elaborated both before and at the start of session, but most of all, do not feel afraid to communicate whatever you need to me at any point! Whether it's an hour before, right as we start, or mid combat, I am always ready to pause things and listen to something that needs to be listened to! ^^
