About the adventure
Ready to try out Dungeons and Dragons? Perhaps you've never roleplayed before, or you have but maybe not with the D&D 5E (2014) system? Want to try your hand but would prefer a beginner friendly environment where you can take the time to learn the rules and not feel lost from day 1? Then this is the table for you! I am running this module with beginners in mind - people with little to no experience, though all experience levels are welcome. I don't bog you down on day 1 trying to explain the system, but allow you to learn as you go and to learn at your own pace! There are no silly questions and you don't need to memorize all kinds of lore to be ready to play! Not sure if you're ready to act as your character, complete with voices or even talking in the first person? No worries! You can find the way to play that makes you most comfortable. You can go as in-depth into your character as you like, or keep it casual. You can come up with a couple-page backstory, or just a couple sentences until you get a better understanding of the world. You don't even need to have your backstory be important to your character at all if you would rather skip on that! I work with each player to best help them enjoy the experience of roleplaying and take as much of a hands on, or off, approach as best fits their wants.

About me
Looking to teach players new game systems! I currently run The Midnight Tavern - Your Friendly Online Game Store! Looking to build an online gaming community around roleplaying games, and eventually open my own brick-n-mortar gaming tavern here on Long Island! Been playing RPGs since the 90s, and I don't see that ending anytime soon! I also do a lot of magic items, plot ideas, GM/DM advice over on Tik Tok!

Creating your character
I will host a free session zero so everyone can get acquainted, learn a little more about the game, build characters, and have a quick example encounter so you can familiarize yourself with Roll20. Most importantly session zero is about giving you the time to ask all the questions you want and for me to provide the most basic outline of what to expect!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
If you are completely new (or even if not) just come with an idea of what kind of character you would like to play! It's easiest if you think of one or more characters you know from books, TV, movies, games, etc as the basis for your character and then tweak that idea around until you have something you like! Also, come to Session 0 with your questions! It can help to write them down as you think of them so you are ready to go when you show up!
What The Midnight Tavern brings to the table
In roll 20 I have access to the following books, which means you will have access to the information, classes, backgrounds, and more in it as well: Player's Handbook Monster Manual Dungeon Master's Guide Lost Mine of Phandelver Essentials Kit Dragon Heist Curse of Strahd Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft Xanathar's Guide to Everything Tasha's Cauldron of Everything If other books are needed I may be able to pick them up as well.
Homebrew rules
Drinking a potion as a full action gives max benefit. Drinking a potion as a bonus action requires you to roll for health. Flanking gives advantage. When flanking (you have at least one ally directly behind the target) you get advantage on attack rolls. Others may come up in a case-by-case basis and we can work to figure those out together. Don't know what any of that stuff up top even means? Not to worry! I'll explain when the time comes!

How The Midnight Tavern creates a safe table
At Session 0 I will be providing a link for everyone to be able to fill out a consent form. This will be based primarily on Monte Cook's RPG Consent Checklist. This allows me to make sure any particular topics, triggers, or events happen in game. That being said, as a DM, I also have boundaries and these will be discussed during the Session 0 as well.
