About the adventure

A mysterious land has claimed you. Barovia is a land forgotten by the sun, ruled by whispers and shadows and by the immortal vampire lord, Strahd von Zarovich. Here, every village hides a secret, every forest path leads to dread, and every choice echoes through the cursed soil. But this is not just a tale of monsters. It’s a story of resilience, of unlikely heroes forging light in the dark. This campaign is designed for newcomers and veterans alike and encourages roleplaying! Whether you’ve never rolled a die or you’re returning to the table after years away, you’ll be guided through character creation, safety tools, and immersive roleplay at a pace that welcomes exploration and growth. Expect rich storytelling, evocative visuals, and a collaborative atmosphere where your choices truly matter. You won’t just survive Barovia, you’ll be responsible for shaping it. Will you uncover the truth behind Strahd’s curse, or become another anonymous soul lost to legend? The mists are waiting. Step in.

What Wizened Turtle brings to the table

What to Expect from My Games: - We shall respect the rules but I believe that Rule of Cool makes stories unforgettable—expect flexibility when it counts! - Sessions come alive with immersive ambiance and occasional background music to set the mood. - I dabble in character voices to add flavor - Combat is challenging but not impossible, designed to be strategic and engaging without grinding players down. However, this doesn't mean you'll just breeze through, be prepared to think outside the box! - You’ll occasionally run into puzzles, social situations that require a bit more finesse and other situations that cannot be solved with a big stick! Bring your creativity!

Homebrew rules

We have a few but we'll cover those real quick before the session! Nothing too crazy, just some quality-of-life rule updates and other things to keep everything moving smoothly

Safety

How Wizened Turtle creates a safe table

- Before you go any further: This is a space for EVERYONE, regardless of what defines you. You as players and I as your DM will pledge to respect each others boundaries, autonomy and to treat one another with the same respect and compassion that we would extend to those we call our friends and families. We support everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual identity, cultural background or religious beliefs. Talks that breech this or endanger anyone will be met with a swift and quick boot from the campaign and group. Period. - Pre-Session Talk (10 - 15 minutes before the session start): A pre-game chat to establish expectations, boundaries, and themes. Players will share content they’d like to avoid, clarify tone, and set goals for group playstyle. - Lines and Veils / Safety Tools: "Lines" are hard boundaries, “Veils” are fade-to-black moments. During pre-session talk, we will discuss further lines and veils. - Curse of Strahd contains numerous potentially triggering themes, including abuse, violence, and psychological horror. Discussing boundaries and safety tools with players before starting will be of utmost importance. While these themes will exist, the descriptions of them and their presence will be minimized in order to make sure that we all can mentally rest and not feel overwhelmed but still make them prevalent within this fantasy world - In the session, we'll use the Green/Yellow/Red system. We will start with an open narrative and make sure that all lines and veils are openly known by all. Past this point, we will be Green for Go. If at in point a player(s) feels that we are heading towards something they find uncomfortable, they may indicate Yellow verbally or via chat that way we know to slow the roll and start leaning away from the topic/event/interaction. If Red is called or written in chat, an immediate stop will occur. The group will be given a break where everyone will be encouraged to step away from the table for a moment, gather themselves and we can calmly and cooperatively address the issue. If the player in question wants to discuss it privately or let me know privately, that is also encouraged in order to remain anonymous and avoid any unpleasant feelings. This is an open and safe space and everyone at this table should be committed to providing that for themselves and each other. - Open Dialogue: Encouraging feedback before or after sessions. I'll ask after each session “Was there anything that didn’t land well?” or “Anything you’d love more or less of next time?” I want to help cater these experiences to everyone who joins this table!
