About the adventure

This campaign is designed specifically for players who are brand new to tabletop RPGs or D&D. You'll learn the game by playing heroes in a classic fantasy adventure: rescue kidnapped townsfolk, explore dangerous ruins, fight monsters, and uncover a sinister plot threatening the region. What to expect: This is heroic fantasy at its core. You'll crawl through dungeons, solve puzzles, engage in tactical combat, and make meaningful choices about who to save and how to stop the villains. Think classic fantasy adventure—brave heroes standing against evil forces. The story starts simple (rescue mission) but grows more epic as you discover what's really happening. My style: I love the "video-gamey" parts of D&D—combat tactics, puzzles, exploration—with roleplaying woven throughout. If you enjoy problem-solving, teamwork, and defeating bad guys, you'll have a blast. I'm here to teach you the rules, keep things moving, and make sure everyone has fun. Who this is for: Players who want to be heroes. Good-hearted characters working together. New players eager to learn. Anyone who enjoys adventure, combat, and saving the day.

About me

I have been playing TTRPGs since 1997. I am a former engineering professor. As such, teaching, integrated systems, and the math are my favorite parts of playing. I master the complicated bits, so you do not have to. I am intimately familiar with D&D (all editions) and HERO. I am also very knowledgeable in Pathfinder. I have been digging into Daggerheart and Final Fantasy XIV TTRPG.

Character creation

Creating your character

Create a concept in mind and I will match it. In our first free introductory session, I will bring pre-generated characters to help inspire ideas.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I plan on using Discord for voice. I recommend head phones, but that is not necessary. You will obviously need a microphone, and I recommend playing in a room where there is not a ton going on in the background. Come up with a character concept. What is your character good out? How do they adventure? How do they approach combat? What is their personality?

What Kevin Hadley brings to the table

I will ease you into the game mechanics, flow of the game, and how tabletop roleplaying games work. I will provide aids of all types, and minimize the learning curve. I used to be a professor, so I know how to make complex stuff approachable. We will get a sampling of skill challenges, tactical combat, dungeon exploring, and clever approaches to mystical puzzles.

Safety

How Kevin Hadley creates a safe table

You are good guys battling against the forces of evil. You may operate on the grey side of the law, but you would never kill or similar except out of self-defense of defense of the weak and innocent. Characters can have a level of moral flexibility, but be good at their core. We will discuss Lines and Veils in our session 0 (off-limits topics). I will handle after care through a google form to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves and to fine tune things for the best game possible. You can use your X, N, & O's via private nudge in the chat of maptools.
