About me

Hello, I'm Sean! I've been an avid fan of RPGs ever since I can remember, and I have been a GM for just as long. I have an extensive background in acting and improv, a passion for game design, and a love for storytelling. Being a Gamemaster is a wonderful opportunity to combine all of the disciplines I have dedicated so much of my life to. In my time GMing, I have run for a diversity of players. I've run games that have challenged and excited veterans as well as captivating and welcoming new players. I have run for people of many backgrounds, identities, and orientations, and I hope I can do the same with many more!

Character creation

Creating your character

I want to let it be known that I am more than willing to help any new players figure out how to make their characters; I've gotten very good at it and I greatly prefer it over having to correct a character sheet with errors. I can help as much as making the mechanical sheet based off of a few quick questions, or as little as just clarifying confusion with the rules. Whether you want to meet up on a call free of charge before the first session, or just DM me, I am here to help. Otherwise, I expect all players to send me their completed character sheets before the first session. Now for stats: I like to roll 4d6 drop lowest myself and then distribute the array I got to my players (that way it's exciting AND balanced!), so please use this array in character creation: 15, 15, 14, 11, 11, 7 (wow alright that's fun) For books, nothing's really off limits. I've played with parties that have used 2014 and 2024 rules, and I'm totally fine with players using either system to create their character. But most importantly, please incorporate your character into the setting! This is set in a board game cabinet, and your characters are inhabitants of a specific board game country. You have absolute creative liberty to imagine the land they might come from, as long as their board game country of origin has a fun knockoff nickname from the actual board game it might be inspired from (i.e. Monopoly=Billionaire Lane).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Just Discord for now; I'll provide a link to join the discord server once the campaign starts.

What SGM brings to the table

I enjoy using character voices, I use ambient noise and make soundtracks, and I create custom character art using heroforge (as evidenced by the thumbnail image and my profile pic!)

Homebrew rules

- I run travel in a really freaky way that's difficult to succinctly describe, but I've pulled mechanics from Pathfinder and Index Card RPG to make something my players in the past have really enjoyed. - I use 2024 exhaustion for the most part, and you gain exhaustion when you come back up from being downed - You can use inspiration to come back up to 1 HP from being downed with no penalty, and when you reroll with it you count the roll as a 10 if it was 9 or under.

Safety

How SGM creates a safe table

During our session 0, I will hold an open discussion on any potential sensitive topics in the campaign. During a session, a player may message to the group or to me privately if they have any Xs, Ns, or Os. After our sessions, I will always be available to check in on people and make sure everyone's okay. No matter what, I will be the last person on the call.
