About the adventure

Beneath the desert sands sleeps a forgotten vault, sealed by ancient guardians and hidden by shifting dunes. Legends speak of a scarab statuette whose power can bend fate – and tonight you’re going to steal it. You’ll infiltrate the vault, dodge lethal traps, decipher cryptic riddles and face off against guardians who adapt to your tactics. The dungeon itself changes: floors rotate, walls grind aside and sandstorms howl through shifting arenas. When you trigger your first trap you’ll be thankful for prebuilt automation: spells and weapons burst with custom animations, loot drops right into your sheet and timed puzzles tick away with ominous music. This adventure is run in Foundry VTT with a bespoke module built to deliver a cinematic heist. Animated maps, dynamic lighting, ambient soundscapes and curated playlists pull you into every moment. You’ll control heroic thieves, each with unique abilities tailored for the obstacles ahead. Boss battles are multi‑phase set pieces that challenge strategy and teamwork; environmental hazards force you to stay on your toes. Puzzles are clever and surprising, rewarding creative thinking rather than encyclopedic lore. Whether you’re new to fifth edition or a seasoned player, Scarab Heist offers a polished, fun‑forward challenge that feels like starring in your own action‑adventure movie.

About me

I’m mudge, and I don’t just run D&D; I craft stories where you are the hero, not just a participant. Every session is built around your choices, your character, your story. The goal isn’t just to win battles or level up; it’s to make you feel like the adventure changes you as much as it changes the world around you. With 3,000+ hours on Roll20 and 6,000+ hours on Foundry, I use every trick these platforms offer, from dynamic maps and lighting to interactive encounters, to make the world feel alive and reactive. But the real magic happens at the table: your decisions, your growth, your triumphs become the story, not just something you watch unfold. If you want a game where the stakes feel real, the story hits hard, and your character’s journey becomes something you’ll never forget, that’s the kind of game I run. You don’t play the story; you live it.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can make your own level 5 character using DND Beyond and we can import them quickly and easily. Additionally premade level 5 characters will be available for convenience if you just wanna jump in and play. All modules, classes, subclasses, races and backgrounds are fine! This adventure will have a mix of roleplay, exploration (dungeons, puzzles) and combat.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Things You’ll Need: ➤ A Discord account for voice chat during the session ➤ A stable internet connection and a microphone ➤ Access to Foundry VTT (login credentials will be provided upon joining)

What mudge brings to the table

What I Provide as a GM: ➤ A highly polished Foundry VTT experience with custom automation, dynamic maps, and seamless gameplay flow ➤ Curated ambient music and sound effects to heighten tension, pacing, and cinematic moments ➤ Tactical, high-stakes combat featuring dangerous enemies with unique mechanics and evolving battlefields ➤ Meaningful treasure and rewards that integrate directly into Foundry for fast, satisfying use ➤ A clear, player-focused table style: challenging but fair, cinematic when it matters, and always respectful of player agency ➤ I prioritize immersion, momentum, and clarity; keeping the game moving while giving players space to think creatively, make bold choices, and feel the consequences.

Homebrew rules

My D&D 5e homebrew rules: ➤ Bonus Action Potions: Drink a potion as a bonus action; feeding one to another creature is still an action. ➤ Max Healing Potions: Potions use with a full action heal for maximum value instead of rolling. ➤ Flanking Advantage: Attacking a creature while directly opposite an ally grants advantage. ➤ Free Object Interaction & Checks: Clicking a button, throwing a lever, or handing another player an item, as well as things like Perception checks are free actions. ➤ Called Shots: Take disadvantage to target specific body parts for effects. ➤ Short Rest = 30 Minutes: Speeds pacing, especially in dungeon or one-shot play.

Safety

How mudge creates a safe table

Before the session begins, we’ll spend about 10 minutes reviewing Lines and Veils together. Players are also welcome to message me privately here on StartPlaying or Discord if they’d prefer to discuss boundaries one-on-one. Player safety and comfort are a priority at my table. My goal is to create a respectful, inclusive environment where everyone can relax, have fun, and fully engage with the game.
