About the adventure

I've always wanted to DM a game in Space, where you can explore many worlds in the 5e adventure books. The ability to pull any adventures through the years and reworking them to fit the campaign has always been a huge passion of mine as a DM. Now I can bring those adventures in a High Fantasy Space adventure. Do you enjoy the idea of being part of a crew of misfits trying to find their way to riches & glory? How about becoming a crew that enjoys helping others, taking contracts and solving crimes? What about blending these two archetypes together while a plot thickens around your every action and decision you make? When I was young, my whole world revolved around those choose your own adventure books. My story telling comes from years of letting my mind escape from reality, explore the many possibilities and Improve has always been a huge tool for me to help tell these stories. Now, with your help, I hope I can bring a new story to your world and impact your hearts. Journey with me friends, let us build a story together.

About me

Greetings & Salutations, my name is Lance and I've been a DM for around 8+ years now. When covid hit, I gained a real passion for bringing my fantasy writing profession into the worlds of D&D 5e with others who were forced to stay home due to being high risk. I enjoy bringing high quality professionalism to all my games, but always put emphasis behind having FUN as a group. I use a Mix of theatre of the Mind + Maps when available for whatever game I am running.

Character creation

Creating your character

Normally this will be talked about during session zero. I can work with any balance of stat rolling depending on what the rest of the players want and try not to limit anyone's imagination. However, for anyone trying to bring in homebrew characters I will have to vet the homebrew to make sure its not broken as I want everyone to feel like they are participating in both RP and Combat. Starting level will be 1, as I do like to enjoy seeing how players evolve from being lowly rookies to becoming amazing well polished heroes as they level. This also gives new players an easier time to learn and grow with the game and the character builds. Characters can be created before session Zero, I just need to look them over and prefer them being made on D&D Beyond as that will be where I'm hosting the games. I'll be sharing my book library so you won't need any books unless you want physical copies.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

1.) Discord & Beyond 20 Accounts are mandatory. I've started using Beyonds VTT system and find it rather delightfully simple and easy. 2.) No server joining needed, I just need to add you to discord so I can invite all players to a private call for the session.

What DM Lancelot brings to the table

I am 100% not a trained voice actor. I do the best I can, however I do enjoy using ambient music to create a fun vibe. I am a story teller, I love RP and will always give each player a chance in the spot light to RP their character. We are all here to have 'FUN' and thus I will always embrace the rule of cool. If you have an idea, just tell me and I will see if we can make it work. However, I will also stick to some hard rules for mechanical reasons and balancing just to keep things from going too crazy. :3c I will be using the new rules and possibly blending in some of the old 5e rules too. Whatever I feel makes the game flow best I will stick with. I like to make combat encounters entertaining, showing off the rule of cool as the enemies often helps fuel players creativity during combat. Other than just 'Walks up, Attacks, Walks back' I like to promote team work and out side the box idea's sometimes to really throw an exciting twist on combat. As a story teller and writer of 10+ years (Mostly private freelance work) I enjoy improvisation and will be loosely following the books for this campaign. So if you have played in the spelljammer world I hope I can bring a new flavor to it all.

Homebrew rules

Using an Item is a bonus action in new rules. So. Yes. I do follow the Deadly Criticals, Meaning if you hit with a crit then you get max dmg on the first dice roll then roll the second as normal. This also means the Enemy does the same to you. Unless the table wants a more realistic vibe, then I am fine with removing costs from spell components that are needed for certain spells (Summon Familiar, Revivify etc.). I will also ban Goodberry & Create food and water if the table wants a more survival feel. Not eating and drinking water each day will give you exhaustion per day not well fed. During Session Zero, I'd love to hear any idea's you all would like to try or found fun from other tables. I was thinking of using the rule, when someone rolls a nat 1 the enemy gets an inspiration token. Giving them a chance to roll advantage against you one time per token.

Safety

How DM Lancelot creates a safe table

I'll be real, I don't know what Lines and Veils means or X, N, & O's digital??? What is all that? *Googles* Right. Hard Limits and Soft Limits are all discussed during Session Zero. I will be going over anything that could cause issues and ensuring that the table knows we won't be doing such so that the whole table can focus on fun. I will also keep a Do's and Don'ts list at the top of my notes at all times and encourage other players to do so as well. Aftercare is handled mostly after the session so we can all stop and just make sure the player is okay (Loss of character etc.). If its something major then I will pause the game and just make sure they are okay to continue, offering them that their character can also just stay quiet till they feel okay to come back. I've never needed special cards, more so I just listen for que's and break in someone's RP. If someone starts crying or seems uncomfortable, I will always break character to ask if they are okay. As I won't be asking for cams, physical cards might be hard which is why session zero is a mandatory session for me.
