About the adventure

Long has the Delian Tomb stood undisturbed, its half-buried entrance serving as little more than a silent reminder of the glories of long dead empires. Only a few short miles away, the quiet village of Broadhurst ekes out a humble existence, unaware of what treasures—and dangers—lie just beyond their farms and fences. But with each year that passes the roads grow more perilous, stalked by all kinds of monsters and bandits. And unbeknownst to the villagers, a tribe of goblins have broken into the ancient tomb, for what nefarious purpose is anyone’s guess. In such times, the people of Broadhurst need heroes—champions to face these evils and inspire hope. So what say you adventurer? Will you rise to meet these villains? ______________________________________________________ Greetings future heroes! Zee here, and this campaign is meant to serve as an introductory adventure to Draw Steel. What is Draw Steel you might be wondering? Draw Steel is a TTRPG designed to deliver a cinematic, heroic fantasy experience. With flashy, tactical combat and tense negotiations, this game makes you FEEL like a hero—and the Delian Tomb is THE beginner module for this ruleset. This adventure is designed with a “learn-as-you-go” approach so that you can jump right in regardless of your level of experience. Whether you're new to Draw Steel or have never played a TTRPG before, this is the place to get started! If you’re wondering what you can expect from this adventure, it is chock full with all the classics: pesky goblins, dark dungeons to delve into, savage monsters, sinister wizards, and of course, plenty of treasure. This campaign will likely last for roughly 10-15 sessions, depending on session length and the actions of the player. I am open to continuing on to other adventures if the group gels well together and you all want to keep playing these characters. But that’s something we can worry about at a later date. Above table, so to speak, you can expect a laid back experience as we take the time to familiarize everyone with the rules. All levels of roleplay are welcome. You’ll witness me doing plenty of in-character voices, but you and your fellow players can do whatever’s most fun and comfortable for you. About me

Hey everybody! You can call me Zee and I've been running TTRPGs for over a decade now. I first started playing TTRPGs back in high school when a friend invited me to play D&D 4th edition, and I immediately fell in love. 'You mean to say I can BE that ferocious beast-man with a giant sword who fights demons on Tuesdays and slays dragons on the weekends!? Sign me up!' But it didn't stop there. Before long, I got the craving to run my own game, to weave tales of villainy and heroism, to craft my own worlds, big and small, for my friends to explore and save! More than 10 years later and I've played and run games in many different systems (VtM, SW-Edge of the Empire, Starfinder, etc.), but D&D 5e has remained my bread and butter for most of that time. Lately though, I've been very excited to dive deeper into Draw Steel and Daggerheart! Last thing to mention is that I value communication and respect at my table. I work with safety tools to ensure that everyone is comfortable and has a good time. If you cannot show basic respect and kindness towards me or the other players at the table, then this is not the space for you. With all that said, I hope to see you on our next adventure!

Character creation

Creating your character

This adventure is for level 1 characters who are just beginning their heroic career. You have the option of creating your own character or using one of the 9 pregenerated characters that come with the module (there’s one for each class). The pregens are recommended for newer players, but I’m happy to help you through character creation if you have your mind set on building your own. Note that the pregens are purely mechanical—a list of stats and abilities—you still get to put your own spin on them with personality, backstory, overarching goals, etc. If you’d like to learn a bit about each of the classes and ancestries, Matt Colville, the head writer and designer behind the game, has some nifty video guides for them. These are not in depth videos on the mechanics, more of a general description of how they work and what’s cool about them. What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will first need an account for Discord, which will be used for communication and voice call during sessions. It will also have channels with information you can look over but these are in no way required material. When you sign up for this game, you will receive a message/email from StartPlaying with the Discord link and a link to a Google Form I’d like you to fill out. Which VTT we will be using is still to be determined. I would like to try out the Codex, which is designed specifically for Draw Steel, though this will depend on the group’s preferences. If that is the case, you will need a Steam account to download the Codex. If we decide against using the Codex, I will default to using either Roll20 or Owlbear Rodeo, both of which work in browser. At some point before the first session, I will also need you to pick a token to represent your character in the VTT (virtual tabletop). I have several tokens already that cover a wide range of different character archetypes that you are welcome to pick from, or you can send me a piece of character art if you find something that better fits your concept (I can then make the token myself).

What Zee brings to the table

I will provide the PDFs of the pregenerated characters should you choose to use them, as mentioned under Character Creation. As far as my style of running the game, I try to provide a fairly immersive experience with in-character voices and detailed descriptions, while still keeping things light above table. While normally I ascribe to the rule of cool, I will be sticking closer to the rules as written for this campaign since it is intended to teach the rules to newcomers. We can always break the rules later! Draw Steel is intended to be fairly tactical, but my goal here is not to overwhelm anyone, much less kill their character. I’ll also be playing ambient music and audio tracks to help immerse you into the world of the game.

Safety

How Zee creates a safe table

When you sign up, you will receive a link to a Google Form serving as a check list of Lines and Veils for topics that might come up in this adventure. There will be space for you to list any of your own boundaries in case there are topics I have not thought of that you don’t want to see at the table. During sessions, there is a general Open Door policy, meaning any player can step away, disconnect from the call, etc. and rejoin at any time without judgement. If you need to leave for your own safety and well-being, or if something just comes up, please do so. I will not tolerate any player harassing another should they choose to do this. Finally, at the end of each session, I like to do Stars and Wishes to gauge what went well during the session and what the group is looking forward to. If you’re unfamiliar, the idea is that you talk about something you really enjoyed during the session (your star) and something you want to see in future sessions (the wish). I’m also open to receiving feedback outside of session time, you’re welcome to message me through Discord or StartPlaying with any questions or concerns.
