About the adventure

This is a beginner-friendly session designed specifically for those new to Daggerheart. We will learn the system as we play, covering the "Hope & Fear" dice mechanics. You’ll learn how to build "Hope" for your team and how the GM uses "Fear" to raise the stakes and we'll learn the dynamic "Spotlight" combat system. No prior experience or rulebook reading required—just bring your imagination and a desire for adventure!

About me

"Hello Adventurers! I'm Jeff the GM, and I’m a professional Game Master dedicated to fostering the kind of imaginative play that only tabletop roleplaying can deliver. My tagline is my promise: Experience a World Shaped by Your Choices." "With over 30 years of experience across a wide spectrum of systems—from the classic high fantasy of Dungeons & Dragons to the gritty cyberpunk of Shadowrun and the intricate politics of Legend of the Five Rings—I've learned that the greatest stories are always the ones the players tell together. My passion is creating a collaborative environment where your imagination is truly the only limit to what you can achieve. I even offer a unique player-matching service to ensure you always find a table of like-minded adventurers." "I provide the high-quality, customized world and serve as the guide, but your heroes are the undisputed drivers of the narrative. Expect an open, dynamic space where your decisions create the epic moments, forge the necessary alliances, and lead you to the great triumphs you envision. If you're ready to break free from restrictions and fully unleash your creative freedom, let's roll some dice!"

Character creation

Creating your character

The intent of this One-Shot is to dive in and start playing Daggerheart! We have a series of Pre-Generated characters to help get into the feel of the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Tools: Discord - Discord server for communication. I'll provide a link to the server upon joining the session. Roll20 (https://roll20.net/) - as a VTT. You should be loosely familiar with but we will review together. Invite to the game itself will be sent out directly once you join the session. Microphone - You will need a Mic to be able to communicate. Camera - It is not required, however having a camera or a manner in which you can be seen, helps to signal to other players when you are looking to engage more easily.

What Jef The GM brings to the table

This game leverages a mix of Theater of the Mind, and Battle Maps. Custom Tokens will be provided for the VTT. I enjoy using different voices for characters and trying to set a good tone of immersion for the players. I encourage players to embrace whatever degree of comfort they have in roleplay. I do use hand signals or phrases to differentiate conversations or questions above the table, meaning something that is not taking place in the narrative, so as to not convolute the narrative of the story and outside questions. I feel that Audio really enhances the immersion experience. I use a blend of ambient and combat music depending on the scene. I like to weave in SFX or onomatopoeia to help enrich the scene. I like to use different images for magic items, Key locations and Key NPC's so the players have some building blocks for their own imagination.

Homebrew rules

As this is a Learn to Play we'll be sticking with the Core Daggerheart Rules, and RoC following the narrative first approach.
