About the adventure

-- Free Session 0 Included -- "Lights of Vvedalen" is a 5–10 session contained horror mystery for players who enjoy psychological dread, investigative gameplay, and the creeping fear that comes from knowing something is fundamentally wrong. This is an intense, consequence-driven adventure set entirely within a town that doesn’t want you to leave. You are weary traveling adventurers, arriving to Vvedalen — a quiet, out of the way, easily overlooked town. The lanterns burn warmly at night. The locals greet you with smiles and curiosity. The inn has rooms waiting. A festival nears. Everything seems perfect. Until it isn’t. People go missing. Entire households are forgotten. Streets rearrange themselves. Maps mistranslate reality. You begin to remember that you've never heard of Vvedalen before... and where is that music coming from? This campaign runs as a tight mystery. Clues are discoverable. Secrets have layers. And truth is buried beneath cobblestones. You will explore Vvedalen above and below, uncovering and exposing the forces shaping the town, and what is feeding on its history. You must determine who to trust, what is real, and how to escape before you become part of the lie yourselves. This is a horror game. There will be tension, social paranoia, and disturbing imagery. Safety tools are available and encouraged — the aim is fear, not discomfort outside the fiction. Feel free to reach out for any questions.

About me

I'm Jayke (they/them), fan of books, music, video games, and, big shocker, tabletop games! Located near Atlanta. Professionally I am a narrative designer, on-and-off experimental poet, and TTRPG writer who creates my own homebrew and working on my own TTRPG system. I'm a self-taught Game Master of 8+ years and have run everything from one-shots to year-long running campaigns. I am also a big proponent of player-fantasy first and world-fantasy second. I spend countless hours toiling with players on how they want their character to play and work to create a story they want first and foremost.

Character creation

Creating your character

At Session 0, we will go over the game and discuss character creation. We may or may not use Decuma so players have some relationships among their characters during the session 0, and any restrictions or limitations will be presented as well. Characters will start at level 5 for this campaign, and we will be using D&DBeyond to track their progression using Milestone Leveling. This campaign does not have much in the regards of player-stories as part of it's narrative, so while players are invited to write their own, they will not be the focus. We will be using either 2014-5e or 2024-5e and will decide which at session 0. If there are additional questions, feel free to reach out.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Requirements: 1. Discord account, where we will be in a shared call for play 2. D&DBeyond account, which will be used for character sheets 3. A Quiet Space to play, with little interruption if possible 4. A Computer, Microphone, and Headphones (Webcam not required, but optional for those who might want to us it) Additionally, I do prefer players showing up 15 minutes before starting time, but I understand that's not always entirely possible, so it is not required.

What Jayke brings to the table

What I provide: 1. Free-to-use browser based Virtual Tabletop (Foundry) 2. Shared D&D content (through D&DBeyond) 3. A Discord chatroom and voice channel for game communication When it comes to the more abstract things: I use a Virtual Avatar of a bear for every game I run so players have a visual aspect to their GM. Additionally I use a open-source bot to play Music and Ambience, as well as doing voices for characters (to the best of my monotone ability). I am a loose rule follower and always prefer "coolness" over by-the-book rules. My only important note is that I don't like argumentation at the table, if there is a conflict I will address it swiftly and immediately to keep the game moving, and I will remove players mid-game if it becomes a problem.

Homebrew rules

1. Death Saves are rolled by me, privately 2. In initiative ties, players can decide to take their turn together, or separately.

Safety

How Jayke creates a safe table

All of my games feature three important safety systems to make sure all players are comfortable: 1. Session 0 Before every game I host a Session 0 to make sure all players are comfortable and have appropriate expectations for play. I also often keep the time open for players to ask questions as well as build their characters. 2. Tabletop Break Around halfway into every session, I host a 15-30 minute break for players to step away to use the bathroom, get more snacks, or just decompress. I have pretty severe social anxiety and understand some players need a break now and then. 3. Debriefing + Stars & Wishes At the end of the session, I open the floor for players to give honest feedback on their experience, whether it be positive or critical. I do this so I can improve my games going forward, but also to make sure no on has a negative experience. Additionally, we will use the Stars & Wishes system so I can make sure to include what players want in future sessions. 4. Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist During session 0 I will provide the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist for players to fill out so I can adapt the campaign in accordance to any sensitive topicality for the players.
