About the adventure
Tales from the Yawning Portal is a classic fantasy anthology campaign that draws players into some of the most infamous dungeons ever whispered about in taverns and training halls. Framed by the legendary Yawning Portal inn in Waterdeep, the adventure celebrates the roots of Dungeons & Dragons: perilous exploration, clever problem-solving, and hard-won triumph earned through risk. Each tale is a self-contained challenge, allowing characters to test their skills against environments that are as dangerous as the creatures within them. The settings span a wide range of iconic fantasy locations, from crumbling ruins to deep subterranean strongholds shaped by long-forgotten powers. The focus is not on political intrigue or grand destinies, but on the immediate, visceral experience of adventure—torches burning low, maps scratched by hand, and the constant tension of what lies beyond the next door. Preparation, teamwork, and ingenuity matter as much as combat prowess. Thematically, the campaign emphasizes endurance, discovery, and the thrill of overcoming the unknown. Players are rewarded for curiosity and caution, and punished for complacency. Success often comes from reading the environment, adapting to danger, and learning when to press forward—or when to retreat. The tone is unapologetically old-school, evoking the feeling of legendary dungeon crawls where survival itself is an achievement. Tales from the Yawning Portal is ideal for players who enjoy focused adventures, tactical challenges, and a strong sense of classic fantasy atmosphere. Whether experienced as individual excursions or as a connected series of exploits, the campaign offers a pure expression of dungeon-delving adventure that highlights what makes Dungeons & Dragons timeless.

About me
=== Sick Games === My name is Marcus. I've been GM-ing games for about 15 years. I started with D&D and soon after I started playing other TTRPGs. I love tailoring player experiences and providing unexpected narrative pay-offs. I do my best to balance roleplay, tactics, and player characters' personal stories. I offer tables that prioritize mutual respect, well-balanced gameplay, and tailor-made experiences. My past players say my games are immersive and evenly paced; I do my best to make sessions feel cinematic. I expect players at my tables to be respectful, curious, and willing to engage with the story.

Creating your character
Character creation will occur during a session 0. We'll use the 2024 Player's Handbook rules. Stats will be determined with rolls.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Read through chapters 1-4 of the 2024 Player's Handbook. Make sure you have Discord installed and a microphone and headphones connect to a desktop/laptop - the Virtual Tabletop does not support mobile functionality.
What Sick brings to the table
I fully embrace the use of character voices, but I don't expect players to do so. I stick to the rules as written for the most part, but will veer into the rule of cool when it appropriately serves the narrative. Combat will be intense, but fair - although it is possible to get in over your heads if you're reckless.
Homebrew rules
I stick to the rules as written.
