About me

I have been running TTRPGs for over ten years, starting with D&D 5e, but that quickly expanded. I'm a dabbler in game systems and lover of stories. My previous campaigns include Curse of Strahd, Horror on the Orient Express, Call of Cthulhu: Las Vegas, Alien RPG, Heart: The City Beneath, Spire: The City Must Fall, Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults, Kinks & Cantrips, and many one shots. I've introduced hundreds to their new favorite board game and have taught dozens their first TTRPG. I run remote games using Discord, Roll20, Owlbear Rodeo, Foundry VTT (my preferred remote format), Alchemy VTT, and other tools. It has been my pleasure to introduce children, teens, and adults to their first TTRPG, as well as game master for those with decades of experience. I have a half-dozen games I've designed, too. Horror, science-fiction, and fantasy are my preferred genres, whether that be in games, books, or movies. I love podcasts, working out, writing, reading, comics, and film. Character creation

Creating your character

Pregenerated characters will be available. You can come to the table with a level appropriate character using the modified standard array of 17, 14, 14, 12, 10, 8, then ignore stat boosts. (Source: https://slyflourish.com/build_dnd_2024_characters_quickly.html) Characters can be built in D&D Beyond, but must be shared with the GM at least 24 hours beforehand.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need 1) Discord profile and to join the Gentle GM server 2) A mic and headphones (webcam is encouraged, but not required) 3) An internet connection. Owlbear Rodeo is a minimal virtual tabletop for token, map, and dice rolling. It does not include character creation. Players can use physical dice if they prefer. Owlbear Rodeo offers dice integration.

What Caleb brings to the table

I have over ten years of Dungeons & Dragons GMing experience. These old school-inspired one shots will deliver fiction-first, rulings not rules style play. My goal is for you to have the best time you can at the table, which includes player choice, creative storytelling, and meaningful actions. Simple maps complement theater of the mind play, meaning how you interact with the setting is limited only by your imagination!

Safety

How Caleb creates a safe table

Safety Tools are always part of my table and briefing on them is part of every one shot session. Commands in Discord will be observed, including: - X: X Card pauses play and creates a break. As your GM, I'll rewind or otherwise determine how best to return to the action. - Rw or Rewind: Rewind a scene that included content that you do not feel is appropriate. - Ff or Fastforward: Jump ahead to the next scene to bypass sensitive content. You can expect B-movie style action and horror, including blood splatter and gore using theater of the mind. Expect threats of violence to hostages relying on your actions to save them. There may be child endangerment, but there will NOT be child death. There will NOT be sexual assault or abuse. I don't believe in no-win scenarios, but these scenarios may see NPC death.
