About the adventure
A new campaign featuring a unique world and setting. You play a member of 'The Folk', those who live in the frozen lands north of the Icing Wall, a massive, enchanted structure older than any of the written or oral histories of The Folk. It has always been there, silent, forbidding, and impenetrable. Any of those that sought to find their way over it or through it using the fabled Gates of Winter have never returned. The past few decades have seen the nights grow even longer and colder. The wilds have become more dangerous with never-before-seen creatures lurking among the frozen forests and snow dunes. And now tales of a mysterious tower, rising from the endless ice itself, spread through the villages and people of the Folk. Will you seek a way to save your people? Or maybe just a way to save yourself? What lurks in the tower and beyond the relative safety of your home and people? The nights grow colder, and time is running out.

About me
A veteran gamer that started playing D&D when I was twelve. I grew up a half hour west of Lake Geneva, the birthplace of D&D and have had a lifelong passion for the game. I enjoy RPGs of all genres and have played my fair share over the years. My biggest passion, however, is creating worlds for people to explore, experience and influence through game play and imagination. I'm excited to get the chance to meet new people that enjoy gaming and having fun with RPGs. I look forward to the many stories will tell together. As one of my favorite sayings go, 'Dice tell stories'. I'm happy to be getting the chance to see those stories once again.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation will be through D&D Beyond's system and we will be using D&D Maps as the VTT for each session. Once the campaign reaches enough players to begin I'll send each player a link to the discord channel we'll be using for game sessions and help with character creation and questions.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Discord will be used for the campaign communication so you'll need a discord account. Players will also need an account on D&D Beyond, however this can absolutely be a free account. I have all the source books that will be needed and they will be shared out through D&D Beyond's content sharing system so players will have access to everything they need.
What Duane Ellefson brings to the table
As stated above, I'll be sharing all the source books needed for players so you won't need to invest anything in books if you don't want to. I tend to be fairly relaxed while running games, I like for people to have fun and be able to play the character they want to play rather than having to fit into a niche or need for the party as a whole. Expect lots of humor and immersive scenes for you to get into. Shenanigans in D&D are not only common but let's be honest, they're sometimes the best part of any gaming night. I do voices and attempt acting to provide immersive environments. That being said, I am no Matt Mercer, but I'll do my best. My main focus for any campaign is collective storytelling, allowing players to really get into their characters and explore their narrative among the greater world and plots.
Homebrew rules
Homebrew wise I generally use etablished systems and character types. However, lore wise things are usually turned on their ear, allowing players to play a familiar favorite species but with the lore changed around for them to get to know them all over again. Firearms will be a thing in this campaign, however they are very rare and will be of comparable level to Pepperboxes and Rifles.

How Duane Ellefson creates a safe table
All players will recieve a link to the Lines, Veils, and Expectations document which details expected behavior and how to go about expressing discomfort. I take player comfort very seriously and while there will be plenty of humor everyone has a right to feel comfortable and relaxed at the table.
