About the adventure

The sleepy mountain town of Aspear Valley is finishing it's harvest for the year, but strange lights and the sounds of explosions are echoing down from the nearby mountains. The villagers are worried about the dangers, and need a group of brave Pokemon to step up and investigate before whatever is going on up there can imperil the town. Play as your favorite Pokémon as you track down the source of the trouble and meet other Pokémon along the way. Watch out though, some of them may not be friendly but there's always more than one way to advance. A short, 300 character point adventure for new players. Foundry VTT automates almost everything, so no prior HERO SYSTEM experience necessary! Open for anyone willing to learn a new system.

About me

Hey, my name is Richard! My two big passions are videogames and tabletop rpg's. I've been playing TTRPG's for about 10 years now and GM'ing some for about 5 now. I've played most systems set in front of me. I've played Delta Green, Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, a D&D first edition homebrew, and FATE just to list a few. The games I've run have mostly been in Hero System 6th Edition and 5e Dungeons and Dragons. My longest running game was a player driven sandbox game. They were super villains running a gang and taking territories from other gangs, scoping out jewelery stores and banks to heist in between fighting super cops and rival gangs of super villains while I desperately built the world in front of them, sort of like that one scene from Wallace and Gromit. My crowning achievement as a GM was a 3 foot tall play space made of cardboard made to be a building in game that the players destroyed over the course of the event.

Character creation

Creating your character

I have a program that lets me easily build characters, so I will need to work with you before the game to make your Pokémon. You have three options: 1. You can pick your favorite Pokémon and what kind of character "build" you want and I can make it to match what you order. 2. We work together to make the Pokémon you want to play from the ground up. You choose stats, moves, etc. 3. I have several Pokémon already prebuilt and ready to go of you just want to hop in. HERO System is a point buy system, so within certain limits any character is possible. 300 Character points is HERO System speak for "low level Super heroic character." So this is a relatively low level campaign. There's no need to buy any books, I have already bought everything the game needs. Just show up ready to play!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need Discord and any web browser besides Opera GX.

What Richard Gregg brings to the table

I like bringing colorful characters to life and pitting them against the players. Sometimes this means combat, sometimes this means a little puzzle solving. I try to stick to the rules as written but flavor is free and HERO System has a lot of guides on how to homebrew the system to get it to work how you want. Above all else I want to be consistent so you know what to expect and can make informed decisions on what you want to do!

Homebrew rules

I've tweaked the base stats to match a Pokémon feel. Higher base accuracy since most Pokémon moves always hit and making the combat a bit less deadly than normal are the two big ones. The only real rule change is to Healing. HERO System restricts healing a lot because of how free form the system is. Since this is Pokémon and all the healing is limited by Power Points and items I'm just ignoring those rules.

Safety

How Richard Gregg creates a safe table

During character creation I want to go over what limits everyone has. I also have a module in Foundry VTT that allows any player to signal they have an issue without the other players knowing who sent it.
