About the adventure
Welcome friends! This is The Abyssal Road. A D&D 5e homebrew campaign created for those who are ready to be truly broken and feel the weight of an entire city upon their shoulders. This campaign will be roleplay-heavy with tactical and challenging combat, where every decision determines whether you live or die. The settings and themes of this campaign are dark and grim, taking place in the City of Melgor, a decrepit slum of a city, where the living damned wander restlessly, and The Abyssal Road, a place where eldritch horrors spawn and ancient evils breathe. Here, you must decide what is worth fighting for and what is worth sacrificing. A main point of this campaign is the inability to die, but with it, a curse that will slowly corrode your soul, turning even the purest of beings into vile and monstrous creatures. Summary: You, along with your companions and the rest of the City of Melgor, are transported into a realm of a starless sky and ancient looming mountains. A wretched forest sprawls over the foothills and the countryside, blocking every view except the long dirt road that leads from the ruined city. The road is long and old, winding in ways beyond the view, curving in an almost unnatural pattern. Creatures stalk the barren woods, things that live, yet should not be, hiding in plain sight. Something has brought you here. Something hungry. Something powerful. Something more ancient than the mountains that watch over you like silent vultures. The things within the woods will wait only so long... You must eventually wander the road, perhaps to its final destination. Will you return to your homeland? Will you reveal the secrets of the road? Will you uncover what brought you here? Or will you fail, succumbing to the things that hide in the shadows of your mind? Evil is everywhere... and it knows your name... I hope you join me on this adventure as we attempt to save the City of Melgor and all its inhabitants!

About me
Hey, I’m Carsen! I’ve been playing D&D for 13 years and DMing for 9. I love tragedies and heroes, epic battles and godly might. I tend to run games in my Homebrew world of Korintheus, but I’d be more than happy to try out a module. My homebrew world has a plethora of locations and cultures, whether it is the circled continent of Jormenkur where pirates run rampant, or the politics and wars on the continent of Polis. My goal is to immerse you in the world and take you in a journey of magic and mystery. I also love teaching and working with newer players to help them get a grasp of the story and world. So don’t worry if you’re new.

Creating your character
No homebrew classes, races, or feats unless specifically given by me or approved by me. Please make a character using point buy, no magical items. You start at level 3. If you want to write a backstory beforehand, please make it no longer than five pages. Please include: 1 Sworn Enemy, 1 Sworn Ally, 1 Unknown, and your connection to them. Multiclassing is allowed. Please use Dndbeyond if you can. If you cannot, then just find a way to share with me your character sheet. Keep to the core books. If your class/race/subclass is from a supplementary book, then please confirm it with me first. Nothing is off limits. I would just like to see it first. Please just be honest. We're all here to have fun!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please make a Dndbeyond character which you will join our campaign with to streamline combat, join our personal Discord server, and have a Roll20 account where we will do our combat.
What Mystic And Mythos brings to the table
There's a lot I can offer you besides years of DM experience. Our games will include background music to set the tone and feel of the game, while also having fun and intense music to listen to while in combat. There are a lot of choices and options for you to make in this game, despite the streamlined narrative, so we'll be using roleplay a lot within our game (Feel free to come up with a voice for your character if you feel comfortable with it!). I personally will be making battle maps for our encounters (which we will be using Roll20 to view), which can be challenging and dangerous. While I follow the rules of the books and the effects of abilities, I love creative problem-solving and will always be open to bending the rules for the sake of fun.
Homebrew rules
Drinking a potion is a bonus action, feeding a potion to someone is an action. When you roll a crit on damage, you deal max die damage and then roll for damage. On a critical failure with an attack roll, you most likely will suffer a consequence like harming yourself, falling down, or even your weapon breaking. With spell saves, if you roll a natural 20 to save against a spell, you take ZERO damage instead. On a critical fail (Nat 1), you take max damage and then roll damage, exactly like a critical hit. The table gets one group reroll per session that they collectively want to use. All must be in agreement.

How Mystic And Mythos creates a safe table
I will be sending a Lines and Veils document to each of our players to get a clear understanding of what they are and aren't comfortable with, but I want you to also understand the themes and specific game I will be running, and if any of the content warnings aren't for you, maybe it's a better idea to find a game more suitable for you and your style. I do want everyone playing to be comfortable and have fun above all, though, so I'm willing to tone things down and make changes so that everyone is safe. After each session, I want to sit down and make sure everyone is ok and that nothing was overstepped. If at any point anyone oversteps or breaks a boundary, please speak out immediately or let me know via a private message so that we can fix it ASAP. When it comes to X, N, & O's, these are similar to the above-mentioned. You can message me privately, message in the group server, or openly say something. When it comes to breaks, depending on the length of the game, we'll take a 5-minute break every hour or so. Time can be longer or shorter depending on the group and readiness to continue, or lack thereof.
