About the adventure
Survive the Ice. Raid the Coasts. Become Legend. Join me for a journey into Cursed Scroll 3, the Viking-inspired setting for Shadowdark RPG. The Isles of Andrik are a place of extremes: the freezing endless night of the Long Dark and the relentless light of the Midnight Sun. You will play as rugged adventurers, perhaps Seers consulting the fates or Sea Wolves seeking plunder, navigating a world where drakes scream in the sky and dverg guard ancient secrets in the deep. Will you plunge into the political intrigue ahead of the next great moot of the Jarls? Will you swear dark oaths to Old Gods to perform great feats of strength and earn their favor? The Isles of Andrik await your story. The GM Style: I run a table that prioritizes player agency above all else. I believe the best stories aren't written by me, but emerge from your choices. Is this game for you? If you love the aesthetic of The Northman or Vikings but want the old-school danger of a dungeon crawler, this is it. Shadowdark is fast to learn and deadly to play. Tone: Grim but fun; High stakes, low complexity (rules wise, LOADS of room to be creatively complex). System: Shadowdark RPG (Rules taught—no experience needed!) Vibe: Nordic folklore, survival, and raiding.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! I’m a storyteller at heart. Before I was a GM, I was a writer, focused on cosmic horror and suspense. That passion for atmosphere and exploring the unnatural runs through every game I run. By day, I’m an educator, a role that’s made me an organized listener committed to building a positive, collaborative environment where everyone’s voice is heard. My GM philosophy is simple: we build the story together. Your characters are the protagonists. Their choices and goals drive the narrative. I don’t tell my story; I create a living world for you to challenge, change, and make your own. My favorite games share core elements: high stakes, meaningful choices, and a world that feels alive. I love building a palpable atmosphere—whether it's the creeping dread of a modern conspiracy, the tactical tension of a high-stakes combat, or the fast, deadly thrill of old-school exploration.

Creating your character
We will create several level 0 characters together as part of session zero -- these characters will enter a Gauntlet - the Hoard of the Sea Wolf King. Those who survive will emerge having made a name for themselves and a small fortune, and they will form the base of the adventuring party that pushes further into the Isles of Andrik. This campaign uses characters built with the Shadowdark RPG core book or Shadowdark RPG free Quickstart book (available on DriveThruRPG). I can provide PDF copies of these to players upon request. Do not roll your character up ahead of time and do not fall in love with your character idea. For this campaign, we will host our character sheets and roll dice on FoundryVTT.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
After our campaign is activated, you will receive a message from me on the Startplaying platform with a link to my discord server (exclusively used for my games, no need to worry about notification spam!) and a link to join our Forge hosted Foundry VTT server.
What Charlie brings to the table
True Agency in a Dangerous World I specialize in running games where your choices genuinely matter. I don't believe in "railroading"; I believe in consequences. If you decide to burn down the Jarl’s longhouse or try to talk to the drake instead of fighting it, the world will react authentically. For Beginners & Veterans: Whether you are a tactics veteran or this is your first RPG, you are welcome here. I am patient, prepared, and love teaching the system. Tone & Style: As a horror writer, I excel at descriptions that stick with you. Expect distinct NPC voices, atmospheric soundscapes, and a game that balances "Rules as Written" fairness with the "Rule of Cool" creativity. The Vibe: We will play hard and laugh often. My tables are safe, inclusive spaces to experience a dangerous, gritty game.
