About the adventure
In this adventure players will be exploring a story all along the Sword Coast, meanwhile performing tasks and quests to make a name for themselves and build credibility with their employer, Acquisitions Incorporated. And of course making money along the way doesn't hurt either ;) This game will have an overarching story to come back to regularly, however it will be very player guided as well, with hooks for other ways to advance within Acquisitions Incorporated. This game even includes materials to supplement your character building to make you even more of an appealing candidate to both your employer and your party! This game has a lot of opportunity for a lot of madcap adventure as well as getting serious with some nitty gritty moments. You can expect opportunities for great roleplay and getting to use innovative thinking and problem-solving. You will be encouraged to use this game as an opportunity to let that creativity shine, or get practice using that creativity to think outside the box! On a similar note, this game will be very focused on working as a group, so we'll be devoting lots of time on building group dynamics and teamwork. If you want to get to have fun with immersive roleplay, out-of-the-box thinking, and working with your party to chart your course, this game will be sure to deliver!

About me
Hi, I'm Maddie, your resident spooky-goth-GM! I've been playing TTRPGs for a number of years now, starting off with D&D 4e, then moving up and now running 5e as well as the new 2024/2025 rules. In that time I've also branched out into other systems, one of my standout favorites being Blades in the Dark! I have a lifetime of experience with acting and improv, even currently working with an improv and sketch group, performing standup comedy, and am working on a degree in creative writing and film. These aspects really inform the way I GM, helping me find joy and fulfillment in giving my players things like mentally challenging puzzles and combat encounters while also bringing professional roleplay experience! I totally understand that TTRPGs can feel intimidating and inaccessible for new players, even with all the D&D media that has become so prevalent lately! I actually thoroughly enjoy getting to curate fun and engaging experiences for new players and help guide them through their first times playing! Whether you're a brand new player or an experienced one looking for more game time, let's play!

Creating your character
I will be offering the opportunity to sign up for DM Office Hours sessions, which is included in the cost of your game admission. These sessions can be used to build a character from the ground up, which I highly recommend for newer players. However, if you are comfortable building your character on your own, these sessions may be used to ask any questions you would like, get feedback on your character build, get help on any places you get stuck, etc. As for source material, I do have digital copies of all materials listed below, and will provide these to everyone as we get closer to running the game just in case you need. However if you would like to get started and have access to these, these will be the character-building materials we'll be working with: - "Player's Handbook" (Feel free to use either or both of the 2014 or 2024 versions) - "Acquisition's Incorporated" - "Eberron: Rising From the Last War" - "Monsters of the Multiverse" - "Tasha's Cauldron of Everything" - "Xanathar's Guide to Everything" If you are building your character yourself, stats are determined as such: - Roll 4d6 and drop the lowest, use the remaining 3 to calculate your total for that score - Do this 7 times, and drop whichever score you would like. Distribute the remaining 6 wherever you would like. (NOTE: I won't be policing which 6 you choose to keep. If you would like to drop the lowest of the 7 you are more than welcome to, however some players do believe in having a "dump stat" to make things more balanced. I don't have any strong opinions on this either way, so I will leave this up to your discretion) - ALSO: HP is maxxed for each level, so you don't need to roll for HP Additionally I would love to offer the opportunity to create player to player connections prior to starting if folks would wish. As such, once everyone has their characters built we will be doing a FREE session 0 where we will be setting game expectations and such, but we can also use this opportunity to share characters and see if anyone would like to connect as part of both of your character builds.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using a Discord server for easier communication out-of-game, so players will need to have a Discord account. For actual gameplay and character building we will be using Roll20, so players will need to have an account on Roll20 as well.
What Maddie brings to the table
I am a lifelong actor and improvisor, so you can expect lots of immersive, creative roleplay and characters from me! Additionally, I studied creative writing for school, so you will have regular hooks for side quests of varying tones and ideas to choose to explore (or not, which is also always okay!) I also use Roll20 to create ambience through both music as well as imagery. Even during roleplay moments I try to have backdrops and images to switch between to make those scenes that much more immersive and help with those who may struggle with things like "Theater of the Mind" gameplay that often ends up being included in roleplay on Roll20. This creates a style that I feel makes these scenes rely much less on "Theater of the Mind" while also feeling more immersive. I also love working with new players! I offer lots of support in-game to help explain various aspects of the game, as well as supportive materials for players to have access to and even visuals on-screen. I am also always prepared to go slow at least at first as well as stop for questions and discussions.
Homebrew rules
- Drinking potions/eating things yourself counts as a bonus action - Spellcasters may cast both a spell and cantrip in the same turn, AS LONG AS one has a casting time of "Bonus Action" - HP is maxxed for each level, you don't need to roll for HP - Stats are determined by rolling 4d6, dropping the lowest, and doing so 7 times. For further information refer to the character creation section above.

How Maddie creates a safe table
Once the game is ready to run I will send out a form for people to fill out their Lines and Veils. I will then compile all those answers anonymously into a document for everyone to see and have access to, as well as ask that everyone acknowledge once they have read it. In-game players may put their X, N, or O's in the chat. I will also have a card deck available for players to use to express boundaries in case they feel uncomfortable verbally saying it or putting it in the chat. The deck will include cards to express the need for us to stop/take a break as well as 2 levels of soft boundaries to ask that we move away from the current topic or scene. Post-game I will send out a form for people to fill out their "Stars and Wishes" as well as any other feedback they may have. Our Discord will also have a channel for post-game debrief so that players will have the opportunity to discuss anything with the group if they choose.
