About me

I was a part of playtesting for Draw Steel (find me in tiny print in the books!) and have been directing it since its release. It's currently my go-to TTRPG system! I was in grad school when some friends introduced me to Pathfinder. I couldn't believe there was mechanics for all the world building I used to do for fun. I've been hooked on TTRPGs since! I enjoy a wide variety of systems and love learning and teaching new games. I focus on fun and providing a collaborative storytelling and problem-solving experience.

Character creation

Creating your character

You may choose from the MCDM starter characters on a first-come, first serve basis or create your own character. If creating your own character, it should be built at first level using Forge Steel and the rules for character creation found in the Heroes book. I'm available to help! You can get in touch with me on our Discord server with questions or for recommendations to build the concept you have in mind. If creating your own character, the Forge Steel data file should be shared with me at least 24 hours before the session. Otherwise, you'll need to use an existing starter character. Characters in this campaign should be heroic -- willing to spend their time and risk their safety to help others. The adventure relies on having a group who wants to work together for the greater good. I love a good back story! Whether you're playing a starter character or you've created your own, I welcome details about your character's background, important people and places, and motivation. We'll also talk about everyone's "Inciting Incident" during our first session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need to have a Discord account and join a server for our game. We'll use a Voice/Video channel (cameras are optional!) in the server for gameplay. We'll use Owlbear Rodeo for grid maps - you do not need to create an account for this service, just follow a link I'll share in Discord and enter your name. You'll need to select a character from the MCDM provided starter characters or create your own character. If you're creating your own character, you'll need to send it to me at least 24 hours before our session (and remember, I'm available to help!) You'll need to fill out a safety sheet to ensure we can avoid topics that you don't want to encounter in a roleplaying game! This game is PG-13 and will feature fantasy violence and kidnapping. You do not need to read or watch anything in advance - we'll learn the rules as we play!

What Emma brings to the table

As a Director, I like to be my players' biggest cheerleader! Getting to see players solve problems collaboratively and creatively, discover secrets, and pull off really cool things (I'll help with the mechanical details if needed) are my favorite aspects about TTRPGs. I always try to make sure that rules and stakes are clear as they keep our expectations and reality in line. We'll use grid maps on Owlbear Rodeo for tactical encounters, but otherwise play using theatre of the mind.

Safety

How Emma creates a safe table

I'll share EUphoria's Lines and Veils spreadsheet for you to anonymously share any lines, veils, and interests in advance of the game. During the game, we'll use Discord chat or direct message for X cards. We'll have a scheduled break halfway through each session and players are encouraged to leave the table at any point as needed. We'll end sessions with a debrief to highlight awesome moments during the session and share what we'd like to see more or less of. This game is PG-13 and will feature fantasy violence and kidnapping.
