About the adventure

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor of Mankind has sat immobile upon the Golden Throne of Holy Terra. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods, and ruler of a million worlds by the might of His inexhaustible armies. He is a withered corpse sustained by ancient mechanisms and forgotten sciences of the Dark Age of Technology, writhing with unimaginable psychic power. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium, for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that He may never truly die. Across the stars, His Imperium endures, vast, brutal, unrelenting, andbeset on all sides by the alien, the heretic, and the daemon. You are His Angels of Death. You are the Adeptus Astartes, transhuman warriors forged for eternal war, each one worth a hundred mortal soldiers. Yet even among the Space Marines, you are set apart. You are the Deathwatch, the chosen of the chosen, drawn from a thousand Chapters and bound together by oath and secrecy. You wear the black and silver not for glory, but for duty. Where the alien threat is greatest, where knowledge must be seized or extermination carried out without hesitation, the Deathwatch is unleashed. You are sent where others cannot go, and ordered to do what others must never know. There is war, and rumours of war. Near the Eye of Terror, the Despoiler marches once more, gathering his infernal hosts for what many already whisper will be the Thirteenth Black Crusade. Entire sectors brace for annihilation as the Imperium strains to meet this apocalyptic threat. In the Ultima Segmentum, far from Terra yet no less vital, three great xenos powers rise in cruel synchrony. Ork warlords muster their endless green tides. The Tau Empire expands with insidious speed, offering unity where there should be only submission. From the void, the Tyranid hive fleets descend, seeking to strip entire worlds to bare rock and ash. Each threat demands armies the Imperium can scarcely spare. Your task is simple in wording, if not in execution: neutralise these xenos threats. Break their momentum. Shatter their leadership. Erase their footholds so that the armies of the Imperium may be redeployed to more desperate fronts. Yet beneath this holy mission lies a deeper stain. A proud local Space Marine Chapter has suffered an unthinkable betrayal, one of its number has fallen. Not to Chaos, nor to daemonic corruption, but to the subtle, poisonous manipulations of the Tau. It is a shame beyond measure, a wound to honour that cannot be spoken of openly. No one knows how such a thing was accomplished. Only that it has happened, and that the truth, if revealed, may damn more than one world.

About me

Hi, I’m Tom, or Inq. I’ve been playing and GMing since the late ’90s, when a group of friends and I decided to try D&D for the first time. One of us bought the 3rd Edition Player’s Handbook, another grabbed the Monster Manual, and I picked up the DM’s Guide… which is how I accidentally started running my first game. It was an absolute mess, but we still had a blast and in time I've gotten better. And I’ve been running games ever since. Since then I’ve played and run dozens of systems and I don't know how many campaigns, some of them spanning years. I’ve built homebrew worlds, run games in established settings, and taken groups through published modules. Over time, even though I still feel like an amateur, enough players have convinced me that I might actually be pretty good at this. For me these games we play are about story and fun above everything else. If a rule gets in the way of a great moment, we find a way around it. The best campaigns are the ones where everyone gets to leave their mark and shaping the story, the world, and the adventure.
