About the adventure

The various folk who make up the world of Humble-wood are divided into two categories: the birdfolk (resembling crows, roosters, ows, etc) and the humblefolk (resembling foxes, racoons, hedgehogs, etc). While they resemble animals, the folk who inhabit the cities, towns, and villages of Humblewood are all humanoids. Together they share the wood and it's bountiful resources. You will play as one of these inhabitants of the Humblewood, an ancient and magical place that hums with an endless song, sung to the Great Rhythm of life and death. But it is almost a place in turmoil. A massive fire known as the "great calamity" burned a large portion of the wood. Now, the delicate balance and serenity of the wood is at risk of falling into chaos. More fires have displaced Forest-dwellers, tension is rising between the birdfolk and the humblefolk, and reports of bandits are increasing all the time. You must help to maintain the precarious balance and restore the wood to serenity. --- WHO IS THIS FOR? This campaign is perfect for 1. Experienced players seeking a fresh new setting, or 2. New players seeking a welcoming first game without too much lore to learn All players are welcome. This table is LGBTQ+ friendly and open to players or any age (18+) from anywhere in the world, from any background, and of any experience level. That being said, I will expect all players at the table to be equally welcoming. Those who don't value diversity and differences should seek a different game. --- THEMES - Community vs Chaos - Harmony with Nature - Prejudice, Pride, and Unity - Courage in Small Places - Hope in the Ashes --- MATERIALS We will begin with the main Humblewood campaign, which will cover the first few levels of advancement. After this, when I have a good sense of what the group enjoys, we can either move into the Humblewood Tales (and/or other published works) or move into homebrew adventures. Either way, there will be clear stopping points at regular intervals so that the group can discuss whether we're still having fun and want to continue playing together or whether we should wrap up our stories and complete the campaign. So far, I have a 100% completion rate on my campaigns. I hope to keep that streak alive by ensuring that we end the story when it's time for it to end. That could be in several months or several years. It all depends on the table. As with all things at my table, this will be a collaborative decision. --- If you have any questions or aren't sure if you would enjoy this campaign, PLEASE reach out to me. I am extremely responsive (this is my actual job) and I would love to talk with you so you can be confident and happy with your choice, whether it's my campaign or a different one. The last thing I would want is for you to join and then be unhappy.

About me

I started with theatre and improv in my teens. I went on to do both professionally for a while before cycling through an eclectic career that involved mental health services, politics, education, analytics, and more. In 2020, I left behind the life of a permanent address and have been traveling the world ever since. I bring to my tables a diverse background, a deep love of telling stories, and a sincere desire to feel big feelings with my players. I tend to favor the RP and story aspects of the games, while combat is a tool for those goals rather than the central focus of the game. I am unapologetically queer and so people can expect many of the characters in my worlds to be, as well. I believe that if the fantasy world I create is less diverse and interesting than the real world, then I have utterly failed at the entire point of the thing.

Character creation

Creating your character

After you join, I will send you a character creation materials. The classes and backgrounds are largely the same as DND 5e (2014) with some additional class options that are specific to this setting. Species, however, is all setting-specific, so you will need to choose from among the 11 available options. After you've had a chance to review these and have a few options in mind that you are interested in, we will do final character creation is a group session 0. PLEASE DO NOT GET INVESTED IN A BUNCH OF DECISIONS BEFORE SESSION 0. Forming the party is a collaborative process and will involve relationships between the characters, as well as striving for varied and balanced strengths.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need accounts on Discord and DNDBeyond. I also recommend having an actual computer, preferably with multiple monitors so you can see the maps, your character sheet, and the discord chat all at once. That said, I have successfully worked with players with nothing more than a single tablet device and we've made it work, so don't worry if you don't have an ideal setup.

What Isaac brings to the table

I have purchased the Humblewood Setting and all of it's related materials and will make them available to players on DNDBeyond so that all the custom options are available for your character. I will also be making use of the DNDBeyond Virtual Table Top (VTT) for adventure maps and combat. We will do a quick rundown of how to use that platform for everyone that hasn't used it before or needs a refresher. Finally, players will be added to my discord server where ALL of my current and past players chat and share memes. With this discord will be private channels just for this specific game. We will use a voice channel in discord for sessions. I prefer camera-on, but it is up to each player to decide if they want to be on-camera for sessions or not.

Safety

How Isaac creates a safe table

I do an anonymous pre-campaign survey where you'll have the chance to share info about what you're looking for from a campaign, your preferred style of play, and any lines or veils that should be observed. I am also extremely responsive and you can expect quick responses to any direct messages with concerns, questions, or requests.
