About the adventure

It's a new era for humanity! The advent of super-powered individuals is a topic on the minds of many these days, and the U.S. government has been deliberating a solution for years now. The recent acknowledgement of the long-rumored mutant population has inspired the formation of a government agency devoted to evaluating, investigating, monitoring, and responding to superhuman threats. And you are part of the new team! Strike is an alternate-universe setting based on the Thunderbolts comic series in the Marvel Universe, but built on the premise that super-powered individuals are a very new phenomenon. Under the direction of the CIA, you will be tasked with investigating and, when necessary, neutralizing super-human threats. But as you are supers yourself, your personal values may run afoul of your duties at some point. Then it's a question of what is most important. Q&A Q: Will we be using established characters from the comic continuity or custom characters? A: Either, but if you elect to play an established character just remember that this is an alternate universe setting and that their history is not going to be the same as it is in the comic. Q: How old will our characters be at game start? A: You may be of any age which would make sense for your character. I do, however, highly recommend that you not have your character be younger than 18. The reason for this is because if you end up participating in romantic plotlines, your age could end up being a problem. Q: Will the supporting cast be composed of established characters from the comics or entirely original? A: Mixed, but I'm going to mostly use originals. I am saving established characters for PCs who might want them, for the most part. Otherwise, you may see a few familiar names here and there, but they will not have the same role or characterization as their comic continuity counterparts.

About me

Hi, I'm Leo! I've been doing games for over thirty years, and was GM for the vast majority of that time on account of there almost never being anyone else willing to run things. Over the decades, I've become accustomed to many different playstyles so I like to think that I'm pretty versatile. The most important thing, though, is that everyone is having fun and I do my best to ensure that the game is enjoyable for all involved. I spend entirely too much time gathering GM resources, so I'm bringing materials to the table like VTT licenses, animated maps, fitting music, and occasionally art if I can find the time to make it. I don't homebrew a lot, myself, but I'll always take requests under consideration. To me, the players are the main characters and I'm always looking for opportunities to help them shine. Nothing in the setting or NPC list should take up more attention as far as I'm concerned. Message me if you're interested in a game!

Character creation

Creating your character

Start at Rank 2. You may use material from any official published resource (which will be made available to you) for which you qualify, with the exception of powers in the Narrative power set.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Characters will be created in Demiplane and linked to Roll20 which will be our VTT. Discord will be used for the voice part of live games and will also be the place for play-by-post in-character channels between sessions. You will need accounts for Discord, Demiplane, and Roll20 but you should technically only need to to run a web browser for everything (though it's easier if you install the Discord client). The accounts are free. A decent headset is highly recommended so as to improve the audio quality of the sessions.

What Leo brings to the table

Once you join the game groups in Discord and Roll20 respectively, you will have access to all the necessary resources in each for character creation, play, and advancement. I will have provide maps and tokens for visual aid and music for audio. I will also occasionally provide AI-generated imagery to illustrate key scenes (I'm an artist, but I don't often have the time to draw everything myself) and characters. I am not a die-hard AI proponent by any means, not I have learned the hard way that it is best to make it very clear from the get-go that if you don't like AI art, you may not enjoy being in this game.

Safety

How Leo creates a safe table

We will begin with a Session 0 so that we can have introductions, go over our expectations, devise our list of Lines & Veils, build characters if necessary, and hopefully kick-start the role-playing so that things can roll into RP over the Discord server. A link to the RPG Consent Checklist for this game group will be sent out prior to Session 0 so that we can have those taken under consideration. During live play sessions, there will be at least one break around the middle of the session for at least 10 minutes. And at all times, I keep an Open Door policy and I will have private channels for each individual player where they can communicate with me.
