About the adventure
CUSTOM TEAM-BUILDING D&D SESSION(S): My team-building D&D One-Shots (or Campaigns) are fun and exciting, and each one is custom-designed to meet the needs and goals you have for your team's experience. You will provide me with information about what kind of challenge you'd like your team to confront together or what sort of experience you would like them to have. Then I will select an existing D&D module/adventure OR create a homebrew D&D scenario designed to fit within your design parameters. You can provide as much or as little up-front information as you prefer, and I will create an experience that is both compelling and fun for all participants. OPTIONS: ONE-SHOT OR CAMPAIGN - I offer both One-Shot (single episode) and Campaign (multiple-session) formats, your choice. I even offer options to start with a One-Shot designed to turn into a campaign if the group decides they'd like to play further. SETTING - The easiest/quickest for me to prepare is a play session that takes place in D&D's Forgotten Realms, but I am open to other settings, including my own homebrew setting, which is similar to the Forgotten Realms but features its own unique location, flavor, and homebrew story content. GAME LEVEL - I usually run new groups starting at Level 3 or Level 5, but I'm open to negotiating on that point in order to best meet your needs. DURATION - Minimum 3 hours, Maximum 6 hours per session. SESSION ZERO OPTION - if you want a Session Zero for detailed story and/or character planning, let me know, and we can negotiate how that would be handled, usually as a separate session well in advance of the play session date. AGE RANGE - Most team building groups are "18 and up", but where appropriate, I do support 13+ players, so long as they are playing with a parent or 18+ sibling. EXPERIENCE LEVEL - ANY, as long as we discuss up-front how to prepare those who haven't played before. PRICING: Minimums for 3 hour session: $25/person ONLINE, minimum 5 people. ON-SITE/IN-PERSON (1 hour drive or less) = $250 $50/person IN-PERSON, minimum 5 people. Other On-Site Pricing Factors: Distance ($.725/mile mileage charge, max 30 miles one-way); assumes you will provide a usable fee-free play-space, tables, chairs, fee-free access to internet and electricity, restroom, water and fee-free parking. Again, all prices will be documented and agreed upon in the StartPlaying Games system before the session is booked.

About me
Greetings Adventurers and fellow DMs! I'm your friendly GM/DM Justin Donie, known here as Fungeon Master Justin. I specialize in D&D5e games for parties ranging in size from 1 to 12 people (1-6 online, 1-12 in person), with ideal party sizes ranging from 3 to 5 players, comfortably managing an eight-person campaign at the moment. I've run over 700 D&D/RPG sessions in my 40+ years of playing (590+ of those in D&D 5e in the last 10 years), including a good mix of in-person and remote sessions of D&D (AD&D, 2e, 3e, 5e), Star Trek, Star Wars, Shadow Run, and other RPGs, but my focus is definitely D&D. I was fortunate to spend over 10 years working at Wizards of the Coast, and while I was there I got the chance to write the D&D Adventurers League module 09-03 Hungry Shadows (https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Hungry_Shadows) and to be a contributing writer to Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. I offer a range of session type and length options including One-Shots (2-3 and 4-5 hours), Marathon One-Shots (5-6 and 7-8 hours) and Campaigns with serial 1-2 hour or 3-4 hour episodes. In addition to the One-Shots and Campaigns I currently offer, feel free to message me about doing a Custom One-Shot for you and your party! I enjoy running both published content and my own homebrew one-shots and campaigns. I am available for both private individual/group events as well as public events, and if you'd like me to run something you've written, I'm open to discussing that too! Please see my GM Style notes for more information about me and what I do! PARTY COMPOSITION: Recognizing that you might be contacting me as an individual looking to play in a game OR as one person representing a group of people who want to play together, please mention in your contact whether you are looking only for 1 slot for yourself or if you have friends who are planning to join the same scheduled event. I normally only run Neutral and Good characters, but I will run Evil's IF the group playing the Adventure agrees to it and we discuss play style well before game time. So if you want to play an evil character, please contact me before booking. SPECIAL REQUESTS: It's always OK to ask me about shifting dates, times, player counts, etc. to better suit your purposes. If I can make it work from my end, I'll be happy to do so!
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
The Character Creation process will depend a lot on the group's experience level. If the group hasn't played before or has played very little, I recommend spending some time prior to the game helping the players prepare. This usually involves an online Session Zero where we go through the Character Creation process on D&D Beyond. Then I coach players who have questions on Discord, helping them select the options that best reflect what they want. For groups with more experience, this process can be handled by the players using guidelines I will provide in advance regarding player level, ability-score creation process, equipment, magic items, backgrounds etc. Players should have a chance prior to the session date to talk among themselves about the class-composition of the group and individual play and character preferences.
$25/person for Online game, $50/person + mileage for In-person game.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
1) Create (if they don't have already) a free D&D Beyond account where they will create and store their characters, 2) Get a list of character creation guidelines (provided by me) once I have worked through the design with the group's session coordinator (whoever sets things up with me), 3) OPTIONAL - If 100% new to D&D, I'd suggest they watch a few YouTube videos about playing D&D and creating characters. I can provide links if needed.
What Fungeon Master Justin brings to the table
My Game Style: I genuinely enjoy running fun and exciting games for groups ranging from 1 to 12 players (3 to 6 is ideal). While the story will guide our journey and the rules will provide guidelines for play, my number one objective is always that "the game should be fun for everybody involved." In D&D Terms, I use the "rule of cool" to guide my decisions, so when in doubt, I ask myself, "What would be the most fun here, without breaking the story?". Expect lots of twists and turns, mysteries and surprises, cliff-hangers and suspense, and plenty of laughs. I love to work with teams in advance to learn what kind of experience they want (and what they'd like me to avoid), and then tailor a story, NPC characters, maps, and images (and props for in-person games) to bring their adventure to life. And after the session, I will prepare and deliver an illustrated PDF notes document detailing your exciting adventure! (I get a LOT of compliments on my notes ;) ). My Background as a DM: I began playing D&D in the mid-80s and started DMing games before 1990, with over 725 sessions run to date, about half online and half in-person. I have a deep and abiding passion for making the game fun for everyone who plays. I've run in-person and online games for friend groups, private groups, over 100 public commercial games, and over a dozen corporate team-building events for Wizards of the Coast work-groups and executives.
Homebrew rules
I have a selection of homebrew rules that I can share with you during the negotiation process and you can pick and choose which ones work best for you. Here's a sampling: CRITICAL HIT PC’s: Natural-20 damage = (1 full damage dice value) + (1 rolled damage dice value) + (normal bonus) (makes for fewer disappointing critical hits!) e.g., D12 = (12) + (rolled value) + (normal bonus value) 25% SUPER BLOODIED Target creatures that have 25% or less of their hit points remaining make all D20 rolls at disadvantage. 3 BAD ROLLS If a Player rolls a 5 or less, three times in a row on a d20 roll, they can re-roll the next three rolls resulting in a 5 or less.

How Fungeon Master Justin creates a safe table
FIRST, I will ask the group if there are any topics they would prefer I avoid during story design. This feedback can be passed to me in a direct message if players choose not to share information with the entire group. This ensures that I don't include anything in the story that could be upsetting for anyone playing. SECOND, I ALWAYS allow time-outs in the game for any reason, whether to ask a question, to step away to do a necessary personal task, or to just disengage for a bit if things feel a bit overwhelming. THIRD, suppose a player unexpectedly is experiencing discomfort due to something happening in the game. In that case, I always invite them to direct message me OR address the group, whichever works better for them, given the situation. Most people prefer direct messages, but I have had some players address the group either in a voice channel or via chat about a personal issue that required them to step away from the game. LASTLY, I'm always open to other safety tools if a player or players have one or more in particular that they find make play feel safer and more fun for them. Just let me know what you need, and we'll make it work.
